A Georgia woman was recorded repeatedly hitting another vehicle in a fit of road rage on June 3. In the video, she intentionally hits another vehicle two times, even going so far as to press on the accelerator in an attempt to move the other truck forward.
According to authorities, 39-year-old Amanda Marie Edge was arrested Wednesday afternoon after the confrontation unfolded near the intersection of Shirley Avenue and West College Avenue around 2:20 pm.
The Douglas Police Department said officers initially responded to what was reported as a motor vehicle collision that had escalated into a physical altercation. When officers arrived at the scene, they found a gold Dodge Ram truck that had been struck from behind by a white GMC Sierra allegedly driven by Edge.
According to a report by WALB, the victim told officers he had temporarily stopped in the roadway to speak with a Unison Behavioral Health employee who was standing on a nearby sidewalk. The victim reportedly said he was trying to locate a relative who was receiving treatment at the facility.
What Really Happened on the Road in Douglas, Georgia?
@californiadream1382 This happened earlier today on W. College Park Dr. This man was talking to somebody in the street. The white truck pulled up behind him, honked at him two or three times and then started screaming at him. There was a little bit of back-and-forth arguing and then she just sends it and slams into him! Twice!! It was so crazy. I’ve never seen nothing like it. #roadrage #ga #crazy #fyp ♬ original sound – Calli
While speaking with the Unison Behavioral Health employee that the victim was originally talking with, it was observed that Edge pulled up behind his truck and began honking her horn because he was blocking traffic. According to those who were there to witness everything unfold, the victim asked Edge to drive around him, but things quickly escalated instead.
The victim told police that Edge intentionally accelerated into the back of his truck, striking it the first time. He further explained that she continued pressing the accelerator in an attempt to push his vehicle out of the roadway.
Fortunately, a witness who had been sitting in traffic behind Edge recorded video of the confrontation and posted it to the social media platform TikTok. The footage was later uploaded as evidence as investigators continued looking into the incident.
When Traffic Frustrations Go Too Far
When questioned by officers, Edge admitted to hitting the truck because she claimed she had become upset after honking her horn and being yelled at by the victim. Edge also reportedly told officers she had been off her medication after recently losing her job and health insurance.
According to the report, Edge allegedly told officers she had been “spiraling” in recent weeks due to being off her medication. When asked if she was experiencing homicidal thoughts toward the Dodge Ram driver specifically, Edge reportedly told police she experiences homicidal thoughts “in general.”
Edge later told officers she believed she had been “blacking out” after the confrontation began. The victim appeared to have suffered a busted lip and requested emergency services, though it is unclear if this is in relation to this particular encounter.
Officers documented fresh drag marks at the crash scene, which police estimated stretched between 15 and 20 feet and led directly to the GMC Sierra’s tires. Edge was arrested and charged with aggravated assault before being transported to the Law Enforcement Center, where she was reportedly placed on a 48-hour hold.
Reactions to Road Rage Incident in Georgia
Various commenters took to the reply section below the original TikTok video to express their opinions, with many condemning Edge for her actions and negligence. One of the top comments under the video reads, “that’s not road rage that’s relationship problems.”
Another user poked fun at the power of the two cars involved, writing, “So does this mean Dodge has a better truck that GMC?” In response to this, another user wrote, “A sad day for GMC.”
Besides the victim requesting emergency services for their lip, the video implies that there were no serious injuries as a result of the incident. It has since been confirmed on June 4 that Edge had been released from jail.
