The Nissan LEAF, once a pioneer of everyday electric driving, is stepping back into the spotlight with a full redesign for 2026. This third-generation model is more than a cosmetic update. It is a smarter, sleeker, and more approachable EV for just about anyone. With a smoother ride, longer range, and far better charging options, the new LEAF proves that electric driving can be as easy and enjoyable as anything on four wheels.

Nissan has leaned into what everyday drivers actually need: comfort, convenience, and confidence. Whether you are commuting, running errands, or planning a weekend trip, this LEAF is designed to make every part of EV ownership feel simple.

Longer Range, Faster Charging, Less Hassle

Under the hood (or rather, under the floor), the LEAF now houses a 75-kWh liquid-cooled battery paired with a 214-horsepower motor. Drivers can expect up to 303 miles of estimated range. That is about 100 miles more than the outgoing model. Fast charging is on the menu too. The LEAF can go from 10 percent to 80 percent in just 35 minutes at a compatible Level 3 charger.

Charging has never been easier. The LEAF now supports both the J1772 plug and the North American Charging Standard (NACS), which means it connects seamlessly with Tesla Superchargers. No adapters, no confusion. With Plug & Charge built in, you simply plug in and the charging starts automatically. It is all backed by Nissan’s Energy Charge Network, offering access to over 100,000 charging stations across the United States.

A Crossover Shape That Cuts Through the Wind

The redesigned body now leans into a crossover form that is sleek, aerodynamic, and just the right size. With a drag coefficient of 0.26, it is more efficient and quieter than ever. Thoughtful details include flush front door handles, a blacked-out grille, and an optional illuminated Nissan emblem.

Designers also sprinkled in some heritage. A recurring “2-3” motif, which nods to how “Nissan” is pronounced in Japanese, appears in the lights, wheels, and interior trim. It is a subtle but meaningful touch that ties past and present together.

Roomy, Modern, and Quiet on the Inside

Step inside and you will find an open, airy cabin with more rear legroom and a flat floor throughout. The shift controls have been moved to the dash, which opens up even more usable space. Upper trims offer features like 64-color ambient lighting, a dimmable panoramic glass roof, and a Bose audio system with headrest speakers.

On the tech front, the LEAF is well-equipped. Top trims include dual 14.3-inch displays with Google built-in. Even the base models come with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto across dual 12.3-inch screens. Add in multiple USB-C ports and wireless phone charging, and the cabin feels up to speed with today’s expectations.

Cold-Weather Ready, Safety Packed

Winter driving is less stressful thanks to a new thermal management system that keeps the battery warm using recycled motor and charger heat. A standard heat pump on higher trims and an optional battery heater help retain range and reduce charging delays in colder temperatures.

Every LEAF trim includes Nissan’s Safety Shield 360 system. That means automatic emergency braking, blind spot warnings, lane departure alerts, and more are all standard. ProPILOT Assist brings semi-automated driving to highways, and a new feature called Secondary Collision Mitigation Braking helps prevent a second impact after an initial crash.

Smarter Tech, Simpler Driving

From the 3D Around View Monitor to Google-powered navigation that maps charging stops and predicts battery range, the LEAF focuses on making electric driving intuitive. Nissan tested the 2026 model in all kinds of conditions, from Alaska’s snow to Arizona’s heat, to make sure it holds up under pressure.

Expected in dealerships this fall, the 2026 LEAF blends what people loved about the original, like affordability and ease of use, with the performance and features today’s drivers expect. It is a welcome return for one of the most approachable EVs on the road.
