“It’s quite ironic,” said Gabriel Fonseca, after he learned that a former U.S. attorney, who prosecuted crimes for over twenty years in the Southern District of Texas, had crashed into him before escaping from the accident scene.
The former U.S. attorney, Jennifer Lowery, now faces felony charges after she left the scene of the crash that injured Fonseca.
She was appointed by the Department of Justice as U.S. attorney in 2022. Despite being aware of the law and holding a high office, security cameras show her failing to help Fonseca.
Fortunately for Fonseca, despite the injuries, he lived to tell the tale about the incident.
Former U.S. Attorney Crashes Her Black Sedan and Flees Minutes Later

According to a report by ABC 13 Eyewitness News, Fonseca was driving west to Memorial Park to exercise after attending a downtown church service when a northbound black sedan, allegedly driven by Lowery, crashed into him around 8:07 p.m. on Thursday, May 14.
The accident happened too quickly for Fonseca to react. Fonseca said he was left confused after the impact:
“Last second, didn’t have time to swerve, so I just laid down my horn and smacked me right on the driver’s side. After that, I just heard a really loud ringing in my ear, and there was dust everywhere.”
He somehow managed to pull over and call 911 before crawling out of his car. He added:
“I remember pulling into the closest parking lot. Somehow, I called 911. I couldn’t open the door, so I crawled out.”
The report adds that witnesses rushed to help Fonseca, but Lowery escaped. Footage retrieved by investigators shows the black sedan parked at the scene of the incident for around two and a half minutes before leaving.
Startled that the driver of the black sedan left without even checking on him, Fonseca said:
“She didn’t even check to see if I was dead. It’s a selfish and cowardly thing to do, to hit someone and run away without even being concerned.”
Court documents revealed that an eyewitness followed the black sedan to a nearby home and passed on the information to the police. Officers reached the house and reportedly found the damaged sedan.
Lowery’s Husband Is Also an Attorney
The same night of the incident, police officers reportedly spoke to Lowery’s husband, who is also an attorney. However, he told the police that Lowery would not be making a statement that night.
On Monday afternoon, Lowery was arrested by the police and charged with a felony for failing to stop/render aid after the incident. She was reportedly escorted out of the courtroom after the initial hearing before the charges were read.
She posted bond and left jail. Notably, the bond amount was not revealed. Fonseca, who did not know that the suspect was a former attorney, said it was quite ironic since she held people accountable for their actions. He said:
“Her career is holding people accountable.”
ABC13 visited Lowery’s house using the address listed in the court records and found the damaged car in the driveway. The missing front bumper reportedly matched the one at the crash site. Sources told the media outlet that Lowery is still employed by the Department of Justice.
