A teenager in El Paso, Texas, allegedly chose to perform some very dangerous donuts while speeding. Unfortunately for her, the reckless display ended dramatically, as the car rolled over and she was placed in handcuffs.
According to El Paso County Sheriff Oscar Ugarte, the incident occurred on Wednesday, July 29. Deputies with the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office (EPCSO) responded to the 12200 block of Ashtabula Avenue. They had been informed of a rolled-over car.
The incident was far more complex. The EPCSO said that they received multiple reports of a vehicle speeding and performing donuts, an event taking place at a newly constructed warehouse parking lot.
The very illegal driving activity was soon put to an end, however. According to the authorities, the driver pushed her luck and ended up upside down.
Donut Roll Over
EPCSO deputies determined during their investigation that the driver had been speeding while operating her vehicle. She is also accused of performing various 360-degree turns.
The donuts were cut off suddently, as the woman, mid-stunt, struck a curb. Losing total control of her vehicle, the car rolled over as a result of the impact.
Photos shared by the EPCSO showed the vehicle upside down with its doors open. In total, there were six passengers inside the vehicle at the time. All of them sustained minor injuries, a lucky turn of events as an incident of the type could have easily ended much worse.
Suspect Identified and Arrested
An investigation was conducted by the EPCSO, and the driver was identified as 17-year-old Kaely Ochoa. A warrant was obtained for her arrest, and she was placed in handcuffs on July 30.
She was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility. Given her age, she was charged as an adult for reckless driving, and her bond was set at $2,500.
If convicted, Ochoa could spend up to 30 days in county jail. Alternatively or additionally, she might also be ordered to pay a fine of up to $200.
Follow the Rules
The EPCSO used this incident to call out reckless drivers in the county, adding that they put their own lives at risk as well as everyone else’s on the road.
Given the details of the crash, the sheriff’s office also asked El Paso residents to never exceed a vehicle’s intended occupant capacity and to always be properly restrained with seat belts.
Users were shocked to learn that the driver was only 17, with some of them asking for her driver’s license to be revoked. Others congratulated the EPCSO for booking Ochoa for her alleged crime.
