Two Tennessee men were sitting inside their truck at a gas station when police say a stranger approached and began hitting the driver in the head without saying a word. The encounter eventually led officers to an abandoned Chevrolet Camaro, where the man accused of carrying out the attack emerged from a nearby woodline while detectives were processing the vehicle.
Clarksville police responded to the Shell Sudden Service at 1550 Hankook Road at approximately 10:50 a.m. on September 14. The two victims told officers they had been sitting inside their truck in the parking lot for about five minutes before a red Camaro arrived.
Police identified the Camaro’s driver as 28-year-old Clarksville resident Loy Collin Bond. Investigators say Bond approached the driver’s side of the victims’ truck and began striking the driver in the head multiple times.
The passenger attempted to intervene, at which point police say Bond assaulted him as well. Both victims suffered minor injuries, and investigators say neither man knew Bond or recalled him saying anything to them before or during the attack.

Following the assault, police say Bond returned to the Camaro and left the Shell parking lot. Officers in the area spotted the vehicle and attempted to stop it as it entered Interstate 24 eastbound, but the driver refused to pull over.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol later located the Camaro abandoned near Exit 19. District 3 Criminal Investigation detectives subsequently responded to the vehicle and began processing it as part of their investigation.
Detectives ultimately concluded that the attack appeared to have been a random act of violence based on the information available to them. Police did not identify any connection between Bond and the victims or provide a suspected motive for why the two men were targeted.
Suspect Emerges From Woodline
Detectives didn’t have to go particularly far from the abandoned Camaro to find the man they were looking for. While investigators were processing the vehicle, police say a man matching the suspect’s description emerged from the nearby woodline and was immediately detained.
Police identified the man as Bond and confirmed he was the registered owner of the Camaro. Authorities did not provide additional details about how long he may have been in the wooded area or what happened between the vehicle being abandoned and his detention.
Bond was taken into custody and charged with burglary, simple assault, and evading arrest. Clarksville police said no additional information was being released because the case remains pending prosecution, and the charges against Bond remain accusations unless and until proven in court.
Additional booking information could not be obtained through the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Public Inquiry website, as a 2023 memo from Sheriff John Fuson states that mugshots and criminal records are not made publicly available through the site in an effort to protect inmates’ constitutional rights.
