A teenage girl riding a scooter was struck by a car Wednesday morning at an Oakland Park intersection, leaving a Toyota sedan with a shattered windshield and the scooter lying nearby.
The collision happened shortly before 7:15 a.m. around Northwest Fifth Avenue and West Prospect Road. NBC6 reported that the girl was taken to a hospital as a Level 1 trauma patient.
The Broward Sheriff’s Office later said her injuries were not considered life-threatening. The driver was shaken by the collision but was not physically injured.
What happened immediately before the impact was still under investigation. The driver told NBC6 she had a green light and braked when she saw the girl but could not avoid striking her.
Witness Stephanie Reyes was working nearby when she heard the impact from inside her office. She went outside and found the injured teen on the pavement, where Reyes said she tried to keep the girl from moving while help was on the way.

The driver said she got out of the Toyota after the impact to check on the girl. She recalled seeing the teen sit up and eventually stand.
Reyes remembered hearing a noise loud enough that she initially thought two vehicles had collided. Outside, she found the teen bleeding and trying to move.
Video from the scene showed extensive damage around the Toyota’s windshield. The scooter remained in the roadway a short distance away.
Two Accounts
Discussion beneath the NBC6 video quickly turned to who had the right of way.
One commenter identified herself as the injured girl’s mother and disputed the suggestion that her daughter had simply entered the car’s path unexpectedly.
GH has not independently verified the commenter’s identity or her account of what happened before the collision. Her comment therefore does not establish who had the right of way or how the crash occurred.
The driver maintained that she entered the intersection with a green light. BSO had not publicly assigned fault, and the collision remained under investigation.
