There are plenty of reasons people eventually stop running from the police. Some get cornered, some simply run out of energy, and others realize that adding another charge probably isn’t worth it.
One Minnesota suspect apparently came to that realization after spending months on the run. According to the Chisago County Sheriff’s Office, he walked out of the woods on his own and admitted he was tired of running and knew he had outstanding warrants.
That could have been the end of the story. Instead, deputies suspected he wasn’t being completely truthful and decided to call in one of the department’s most reliable investigators.
Enter K9 Judge. It only took the four-legged deputy a few seconds to locate what the suspect left behind, turning an already unusual arrest into one that’s now getting plenty of attention online.
The Confession Didn’t End the Investigation
According to the Chisago County Sheriff’s Office, the incident began on July 3 when a deputy attempted to stop a vehicle that wasn’t displaying license plates. Instead of dealing with the charge and pulling over, the driver fled the area, abandoning the vehicle before disappearing into nearby woods.
Officers searched the area before the suspect unexpectedly emerged on his own. According to the sheriff’s office, he told the deputy he had been “tired of running for the last 8 months” and acknowledged he had outstanding warrants.
The sheriff’s office joked that suspects don’t usually tell deputies “the complete truth,” leading officers to believe something may have been left behind in the woods. That’s when K9 Judge was called in to help search the area.
Judge wasted no time getting to work. Within about 20 seconds, Judge located what deputies described as a very smelly sock hidden in the woods.
Inside the sock, deputies say they found drug paraphernalia belonging to the suspect. He was arrested and transported to jail, while K9 Judge received plenty of praise from both deputies and the public.
Commenters Couldn’t Stop Praising Judge’s Nose
Although the suspect’s unexpected confession caught plenty of attention, commenters were far more interested in congratulating Judge for another successful search.
Many joked that the K9 had once again “delivered the verdict,” while others suggested he deserved treats, tennis balls, or even a Pup Cup for locating the hidden evidence so quickly. Several thanked both Judge and his handler for their work, with one commenter writing, “Good Dog!”
Not everyone agreed on the importance of the evidence, with a handful of commenters questioning whether the recovered drug paraphernalia would ultimately matter in court. Even so, the overwhelming reaction celebrated the K9’s speed and reliability, proving that if you’re going to hide evidence in the woods, a trained police dog is probably the last investigator you want looking for it.
