Arizona-based Deputy Frank Sloup is back at it, and this time, he came across a man allegedly speeding. Curiously enough, when asked for his documentation, he showed a fishing license, of all things. Because why not?
The Pinal County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO) shared episode 212 of Fridays With Frank. Two drivers encountered the viral deputy, both of whom were accused of traffic violations.
The second involved a man driving a red Ford Mustang. According to the PCSO and Deputy Sloup, the man had been traveling at 69 mph in a 45 mph zone.
That is considered criminal speeding. But before the deputy decided how to proceed, he had a little chat with the driver.
Documents Requested
The driver began searching for his driver’s license, which he immediately provided. Meanwhile, Deputy Sloup told him he had been speeding and pointed out that he did, in fact, look like the picture on his license.
Then, the Arizona deputy asked the man for his registration paperwork and proof of insurance. This proved to be a much harder endeavor.
The man took out a warning, which, of course, Deputy Sloup took notice of. In a display of honesty, the unnamed driver, whose face was blurred, said that he had run a red light.

Still struggling to find the requested documents, the driver asked Deputy Sloup for a reminder. He told him, “Insurance,” and the driver, after talking to himself for a bit, held up a piece of paper.
“That’s a fishing license,” the deputy said. “It allows you to harvest a delicious bass.”
The law enforcement agent returned to his cruiser, not before asking the driver to continue searching for his insurance card. No proof of insurance was found.
Cutting Him Some Slack
After a brief wait and some ticket printing, Deputy Sloup returned to the driver. He explained to him that while he had committed a serious speeding offense, he would cut him a little break since he had never been stopped by the PCSO for anything traffic-related.
Deputy Sloup ended up giving him tickets for speeding (civil) and for the missing proof of insurance. The latter can be dismissed if he provides the documentation.
“We get it. It’s a long, straight road. If you’re doing 55 in a 45, probably no one’s gonna mess with you,” he said. “69 in a 45, you’re gonna be pretty popular.”
