A car races past highway traffic at night, moving far faster than the vehicles around it. Not long afterward, a dashcam records the aftermath of a terrible crash, with flames rising from the road ahead. The footage has drawn attention online, where viewers quickly noticed the car’s earlier behavior.
The crash happened on November 1, 2026, along Highway 401 in Whitby, Ontario. Three vehicles were involved, and two caught fire. By the time the scene was cleared, one woman had died, and two other people had been taken to a hospital.
Police have since charged a 20-year-old man with impaired driving and dangerous driving causing death. Although the video shows troubling behavior before the wreck, police have not publicly confirmed that the speeding car seen in the recording was the vehicle driven by the accused man.
Posted to Reddit’s r/dashcams community in a higher-quality version, the recording has prompted a wave of angry reactions. For many viewers, the most disturbing part is how quickly an ordinary highway drive turns deadly.

The Reddit post, titled “Reposting with better quality, multi-vehicle fire crash,” shows a nighttime drive through moderate highway traffic. Early in the recording, a car moves through traffic at what appears to be high speed.
As the recording continues, the scene changes from moving traffic to the aftermath of a major collision. Flames appear ahead as other drivers approach the wreck.
Viewers quickly connected the earlier speeding car with the fire. One commenter wrote, “Figured it would be THAT car,” while another pointed to the vehicle rushing through traffic near the beginning of the clip.
Others questioned why anyone would drive so fast on a busy highway. One person asked whether the footage had been sent to the Ontario Provincial Police.
Three Vehicles, Two Fires
According to a November 2 statement from the Ontario Provincial Police, officers responded to the collision at approximately 7:10 p.m. on November 1.
The wreck happened in the westbound lanes of Highway 401 near Thickson Road. Police described it as a three-vehicle collision, with two of the vehicles catching fire afterward.
Unfortunately, a 43-year-old Kingston woman was found dead at the scene. Two other people survived and were taken to a hospital with minor injuries.
In a later police update, police described the collision as a rear-end crash. The statement did not identify which vehicle struck another first or explain the full sequence of impacts.
Charges Follow
Police identified one driver as Jaxon Christie, 20, of Lincoln, Ontario. After the crash, police arrested him and held him in custody pending a bail hearing.
Christie faces charges of dangerous driving causing death, impaired driving causing death, and operating a vehicle with a blood alcohol concentration above the legal limit.
Those charges have not been proven in court.
While the dashcam has become a major part of the online discussion, police statements do not identify the speeding vehicle shown in the footage. Investigators have also not released a confirmed speed for the vehicles involved.
Highway Shutdown
Following the crash, police closed the westbound lanes near Thickson Road so specialized teams could examine the wreckage.
Members of the Ontario Provincial Police Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement team worked alongside collision reconstruction specialists and technical investigators.
The closure lasted through the night, leaving that section of Highway 401 unavailable to westbound traffic for several hours.
According to the November 2 police update, the highway reopened shortly after 4 a.m.
