Wild custom builds are nothing new in the automotive world, although few are executed as cleanly as this one-of-a-kind BMW M4 Competition xDrive ute. What started life as a 2022 G82 M4 coupe has been transformed into a high-performance pickup that blends modern BMW engineering with a body style enthusiasts rarely get to see outside of Australia.
Known as the “M4Maloo,” the custom creation was commissioned by its owner and built by DinMann in Los Angeles, California. The conversion attracted plenty of attention after appearing at the SEMA Show, where it wore a metallic blue wrap before later returning to its original Brooklyn Gray Metallic finish.
Rather than stopping at the bodywork, the builders also upgraded the twin-turbocharged S58 inline-six with a collection of performance modifications. Combined with the M4 Competition’s xDrive all-wheel-drive system, the result is a ute that looks ready to haul far more than hardware store supplies.
Now, this unique creation has appeared for sale on Bring a Trailer, giving collectors and BMW enthusiasts the rare opportunity to own one of the most unusual modern M cars ever built.
A Complete Ute Transformation
Converting a modern performance coupe into a pickup isn’t as simple as removing the rear section of the roof. DinMann shortened the passenger compartment, fabricated an entirely new cargo bed, modified the factory carbon-fiber roof, and created a custom rear bulkhead to tie everything together.
The exterior also received an extensive collection of carbon-fiber upgrades, including a new front grille, front lip, rear diffuser, side skirts, and revised fenders. Despite the extensive modifications, the finished product looks remarkably cohesive, almost as though BMW could have offered it as a low-volume special edition.
Factory equipment such as the Icon Adaptive LED headlights, Park Distance Control sensors, Surround View camera system, and active safety technologies were retained throughout the build, making the custom conversion even more impressive.
Serious Performance Backing the Looks
The M4’s 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged S58 inline-six didn’t escape modification either. The engine now features Pure Turbos Stage 2 turbochargers, a Wagner Performance carbon-fiber intake system, bootmod ECU tuning for E85 fuel, and a GTHaus Meisterschaft valved exhaust.
While an official horsepower figure hasn’t been disclosed, the upgraded hardware suggests a substantial increase over the factory output of 503 horsepower and 479 lb-ft of torque. Power continues to flow through BMW’s eight-speed automatic transmission, xDrive all-wheel-drive system, and M Sport limited-slip differential.
Handling has also been sharpened with AST lowering springs, while forged M Performance Y-spoke wheels measure 19 inches at the front and 20 inches at the rear. Continental ExtremeContact tires and the factory M Compound braking system with red calipers complete the performance package.
A Familiar Cabin with Custom Touches
Although the exterior has been dramatically transformed, the cabin remains instantly recognizable as an M4. Heated M Carbon front bucket seats trimmed in Fiona Red leather with black inserts remain in place, preserving the premium atmosphere of the original coupe.
Several carbon-fiber accents have been added throughout the interior, including the steering wheel, center console trim, door handles, kick panels, and steering column trim. The custom steering wheel also features an integrated LED display positioned ahead of BMW’s 12.3-inch Live Cockpit Pro digital instrument cluster.
Modern amenities such as the head-up display, Harman Kardon premium audio system, gesture controls, adaptive cruise control, remote start, and navigation all remain fully functional despite the extensive body modifications.
A One-Off BMW That Stands Out
One of the more impressive aspects of the project is how seamlessly the conversion integrates with the original vehicle. The rear parking sensors, surround-view camera system, and other electronic features continue to operate, despite the extensive structural changes required to create the pickup bed.
The build also pays subtle tribute to Australia’s legendary performance utes through its “M4Maloo” nickname, referencing Holden’s iconic Maloo models. Interestingly, BMW itself has experimented with pickup concepts before, including the famous E92 M3 Pickup, although nothing like this has ever reached production.
With fewer than 8,000 miles showing on the odometer, the custom BMW is currently listed on Bring a Trailer. The sale includes build photos documenting the conversion, the original digital window sticker, and images from its appearance at SEMA, while the listing notes that the vehicle has an outstanding lien that must be cleared before the title can be transferred.
