Some new cars look futuristic because they have a big screen or an unusual lighting signature. Saudi Arabia’s first homegrown automotive brand has taken a rather different approach.
Ceer has unveiled its first production vehicles, a pair of electric flagships called Exobot. Available as a sedan and SUV, both look like something that escaped from the set of a science-fiction movie.
The wedge-shaped bodies, enormous glass areas, and dramatic gullwing-style doors wouldn’t look particularly out of place in most movies about the future. Those doors also eliminate the conventional B-pillar, opening up a huge portion of each vehicle’s side.
Yet these aren’t concepts destined to spend eternity rotating on an auto-show stand. Ceer says production will begin in Saudi Arabia, with Reuters reporting that sales are scheduled to start in early 2027.
Those Wild Doors Are Going Into Production
Ceer calls them Shahin Wing Doors, taking inspiration from the Shahin falcon. Each assembly is nearly three meters long and opens upward while moving through a relatively compact 60-centimeter arc.
The interior continues the theme. A curved 48-inch 8K display stretches across the dashboard, accompanied by a 10.4-inch central control screen, while a steering yoke works with a steer-by-wire system.
Ceer has also given the Exobot rear-wheel steering and adaptive dual-chamber air suspension. Considering the sedan stretches 5.26 meters, or roughly 207 inches, those systems should prove useful in tight spaces.
Up To 1,111 HP Is On The Menu
The limited First Edition arriving initially uses three electric motors and all-wheel drive to produce 850 hp and 738 lb-ft of torque. Ceer claims 0–62 mph takes 2.6 seconds in the sedan and 2.9 seconds in the SUV.
A 112-kWh battery is paired with an 800-volt electrical architecture, allowing a claimed 10-to-80-percent charge in under 30 minutes. Ceer quotes up to 670 km (416 miles) for the sedan and 560 km (348 miles) for the SUV, although those figures use the generous NEDC testing cycle.
Things get even crazier further up the range. Ceer says the Exobot’s highest specification will produce 1,111 hp and 1,500 Nm of torque, dropping the sedan’s 0–62 mph time to just 2.1 seconds.
There’s Plenty Of International Technology Underneath
Ceer was established as a joint venture between Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund and Foxconn. Foxconn supplied electrical architecture, BMW provided engineering expertise, while other global suppliers are contributing to the project.
The Exobot will be manufactured at Ceer’s new complex in King Abdullah Economic City. Five additional models are planned by 2030, and the company has also opened the door to plug-in hybrids and combustion-powered vehicles as it responds to market demand.
Pricing hasn’t been announced. Whatever these things eventually cost, Ceer certainly hasn’t chosen subtlety for its first attempt at building a car.
