Like many in the auto industry, beloved German automaker Porsche is fully electrifying its lineup. Part of this is the recent news that a hybrid 911 Carrera is coming soon. News surrounding a new electric supercar has also added to the excitement. We now have more details on that car, the Porsche Mission X.

What We Know About The Mission X

The German automaker debuted an exciting Mission X concept last year and has teased a few details about it since, like the vehicle making its debut at the end of this year.

According to a report from Motor1, the Mission X will sit atop Porsche’s lineup, succeeding gas-powered models like the Carrera GT and the 918 Spyder. In designing the Mission X concept, the automaker borrowed points from Le Mans prototype racers such as the 919 Hybrid, where the concept’s upward and forward opening doors come from.

Motor1 also cites that the Mission X concept sports significant air intakes near the car’s bumper to assist its cooling and aerodynamics. The Mission X also features a futuristic glass bubble that houses its luxurious cabin. The cabin sports deep bucket seats, exposed carbon, color contrasts, an F1-inspired steering wheel, and six-point harnesses, according to the report from Motor1.

The rear of the glass cabin features an embedded spoiler, along with an illuminated Porsche logo with slender tail lights on both sides.

The Mission X Could Have A Unique Motor Layout

One unique feature of the Porsche Mission X is its mid-motor layout. While many electric cars store their batteries on the floor, the Mission X will keep them behind its seats. According to Motor1, this is an “e-core” configuration.

Porsche used this unique configuration to give Mission X the handling feel and capabilities of a mid-engine vehicle. However, Motor1’s report also notes that the automaker has yet to clarify if the production version of the Mission X will also feature an “e-core” configuration.

The Mission X concept also sports 900-volt architecture and could generate as much as 1,700 horsepower. According to Motor1, the production Mission X could be the first Porsche to ever come with three electric motors and all-wheel drive. Their report also speculates the production Mission X can achieve a sub 2.0 second 0 to 60 miles per hour time.
