A newly released police dashcam video offers a closer look at the dangerous moments as a suspected stolen Audi S5 was brought to a stop following a high-speed pursuit through County Durham.

The footage, released by Durham Constabulary, shows specially trained roads policing officers working together to safely bring the pursuit to a safe end after the driver allegedly accelerated to speeds of up to 140 mph in an attempt to evade capture.

The chase, which covered approximately six miles (almost 10 kilometers), ended without any reported injuries after officers used a combination of containment tactics and tactical contact to stop the vehicle. Authorities have since confirmed the teenage driver has pleaded guilty to a string of offenses.

Officers Spot Suspected Stolen Audi

The pursuit began on June 24 after officers identified a suspected stolen Audi S5 near Rushyford. When police attempted to stop the vehicle, the 17-year-old driver sped away instead, leading officers on a dangerous chase along dual carriageways and through several roundabouts.

Dashcam footage shows the Audi repeatedly reaching extremely high speeds while weaving through traffic and crossing into the wrong lane as officers tried to stop the driver.

Coordinated Tactics Bring Pursuit to an End

As the Audi continued to flee, road policing officers coordinated their response over police radio while positioning additional units further along the route. The strategy was designed to safely contain the vehicle rather than rely solely on a prolonged high-speed chase.

During the pursuit, the Audi struck a police vehicle, damaging one of its front wheels. Even with the damage, the driver continued for a short distance before officers boxed in the vehicle and used tactical contact to force it to a safe stop.

Search Uncovers More Vehicle Keys

Following the arrest, officers searched the Audi and reportedly discovered a collection of keys linked to several different vehicles, including Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Ford models.

Police also recovered multiple house keys attached to some of the keyrings. Investigators say the items are connected to burglary offenses and form part of the case against the teenage driver.

Durham Constabulary said the 17-year-old has since pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and burglary-related offenses. He has been remanded in custody and is due to be sentenced in October.

Police say the newly released footage highlights both the risks posed by dangerous drivers and the specialist tactics available to trained roads policing officers to bring high-speed pursuits to a safe conclusion.
