We see a lot of police chases here at Guessing Headlights, but I don’t think I’ve seen many that make me genuinely question whether it was AI. A video was posted to Instagram highlighting a pretty wild chase from August 2025 that involved a traffic stop, marijuana, a rideshare driver, and Mario Kart.

The incident happened on August 16, 2025, at about 8:15 pm, when an officer from the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office pulled over a vehicle. The officer checked the driver’s license and found it to be suspended, which only made the fact that he could smell marijuana coming from inside that much worse.

The clip that’s made the incident go viral doesn’t capture all the details, but it definitely highlights the most interesting ones. Especially the one about the rideshare driver who offered an officer a lift when the suspect booked it on foot.

While the video is actually pretty hilarious, it also highlights the dangers that police officers face in their everyday work, and how there are people out there willing to go the extra mile to help them.

The Rideshare Driver Became an Unlikely Backup Officer

In the clip, you can hear an officer speaking to the passenger of a vehicle that they had just pulled over. He says to the passenger, “His license is suspended, the car smells like weed, I’m just going to go do a search.”

After being told that the officers were going to search his bag, the suspect immediately threw it to another person in the vehicle. This person then immediately books it down the street, confusing the officers.

One of the officers who was chasing the suspect was spotted by a rideshare driver who pulled over to help. When the officer got inside to continue pursuing the on-foot suspect, Mario Kart 8 was playing on a monitor in the backseat.

Shortly afterward, the officer was able to successfully deploy his taser from inside the rideshare just as they passed the suspect. He was then able to have the runner get on his stomach for arrest.

The Internet Is Split Over the Driver’s Decision

The comments were actually divided between those who praised the rideshare driver and others who thought he was doing too much. One commenter wrote, “I don’t like people like that. Like, what do u get out of it for helping the police out?😂 He thought he was doing something for the community 😂.”

On the other hand, another commenter wrote, “Y is no one talking about how this might be the single greatest Uber of all time this nga got Mario Kart primed and ready for the passengers 😭.”

The video is undoubtedly funny, but also shows the dangers faced by the police force every day. It doesn’t appear that anyone was injured as a result of the incident.

As always, suspects are considered innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
