A 24-year-old man has been arrested after allegedly driving an SUV through San Francisco’s popular Dolores Park, forcing parkgoers to scramble out of the vehicle’s path in a shocking incident that was caught on camera.

Miraculously, no injuries were reported despite the reckless stunt taking place while the park was crowded with people enjoying the weekend. Witnesses described scenes of panic as the SUV sped across grassy areas, narrowly missing pedestrians before leaving the park.

Videos shared widely on social media showed the vehicle tearing across the open space while a passenger appeared to lean out of a window as bystanders shouted and rushed to safety. The footage quickly went viral, prompting widespread outrage and calls for those responsible to be held accountable.

Police launched an investigation shortly after the incident and worked to identify the driver. Authorities later named the suspect as 24-year-old Justice Ray of San Francisco.

Police Pursuit Ends in Arrest

According to the San Francisco Police Department, officers located the suspect vehicle two days later near Van Ness Avenue and McAllister Street.

When officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop, the driver allegedly refused to pull over and instead sped away, leading police on another dangerous chase through city streets. Officers briefly lost sight of the SUV before locating it parked a short time later.

Police approached the vehicle and ordered the driver to stop, but investigators said he initially ignored commands before eventually surrendering. He was taken into custody without further incident.

Two passengers who were inside the SUV at the time were briefly detained during the investigation before being released without charges.

Multiple Charges Filed

Justice Ray was booked into San Francisco County Jail on several charges, including reckless driving, evading police, resisting arrest, driving in a restricted transit lane and operating a vehicle without a valid driver’s licence.

Investigators continue to review videos captured by witnesses and are asking anyone with additional footage or information to contact the San Francisco Police Department.

Officials stressed that while nobody was hurt, the outcome could easily have been far worse given the large number of people gathered in Dolores Park at the time.

The incident has renewed concerns about dangerous driving and reckless behaviour in public spaces, particularly when stunts are recorded and shared on social media.

Community Shaken by Close Call

Dolores Park is one of San Francisco’s busiest and most popular green spaces, attracting thousands of visitors on sunny weekends for picnics, sports and social gatherings.

Residents expressed relief that no one was injured during the terrifying incident but said the events highlighted how quickly a day at the park could have turned into tragedy.

Many praised police for identifying and arresting the suspect within days, while others called for tougher penalties for reckless driving offences that endanger the public.

Authorities said the investigation remains active as detectives continue gathering evidence and reviewing witness statements. Prosecutors will now determine how the case moves forward through the courts.

Officials are also reminding motorists that reckless driving carries serious consequences and that public parks are intended to be safe spaces for families and visitors. The dramatic incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by irresponsible driving, even when, as in this case, everyone was fortunate enough to escape without injury.
