A motorcyclist in Colombia learned the hard way what happens when you run a stop sign into a moving bus and somehow walked away from it almost unscathed. The crash was so strange it’s been circulating online for days.
The collision happened Sunday, August 30, in Buga, a city in western Colombia’s Valle del Cauca region, according to KTLA.
Surveillance footage from a nearby cafe shows the unidentified rider blowing through a stop sign at full speed and flying through the bus doors as it crossed the intersection.
The timing worked strangely in his favor. The bus door happened to be open at the moment of impact, and the force of the crash launched the rider straight through the opening and into the bus itself.
It Could Have Been Much Worse
The motorcyclist could have been facing serious injuries had the door been shut; the rider likely would have collided directly with the solid side of the bus instead of being thrown through an open gap. The open door literally saved him.
Camera footage from inside the bus shows the rider landing in the aisle, colliding with some of the seats before sitting up, visibly dazed but conscious just moments after the crash. You can see a passenger and the driver of the bus getting up, looking at the motorcyclist to see if he is okay. It was definitely an incident no one saw coming.
He Just Walked Away
Despite the severity of the crash, the rider didn’t need to be carried off. In the footage from inside, you can see him getting up and walking off the bus under his own power, clearly shaken. A bystander can also be seen at the door of the bus trying to help him get on his feet.
The Independent reported that the man did not sustain serious injuries. Authorities have not released his identity or provided further details about his condition, and it’s unclear whether he’s facing any traffic violations for running the stop sign.
People Couldn’t Believe It
Reactions to the crazy crash had people cracking jokes and in disbelief. One commenter joked that at least he didn’t miss his bus, while another questioned the rider’s judgment outright, asking whether he had brakes, a helmet, or any sense of self-preservation at all.
Others were simply relieved he came out of it in one piece, with one commenter admitting they were glad he was okay, “ish,” given how the crash looked on video.
