Miami Police Lieutenant Finds Himself Under Arrest Again After Driving Under the Influence

You’ve heard of the Florida Man phenomenon, but did you know that it also extends to cops in the state? An officer for the City of Miami Police Department was arrested after doing something illegal for the second time in his career.

This incident follows this officer’s 2024 arrest, when he was relieved of his duty as an officer shortly after. To make matters worse, the charge was related to domestic violence.

This time, however, it seems that the officer has been arrested for driving under the influence. You’d think that this particular officer would do everything in his power to stay clean and away from anything that would draw attention to him.

Well, it seems that he had other thoughts. Fortunately, no one was injured as a result of the incident, and the officer has once again been suspended and relieved of duty.

The DUI Arrest Comes After a 2024 Domestic Violence Case

Forty-seven-year-old Lt. Thomas Carroll was taken off the streets over the last weekend after a DUI arrest within the city of Miami. According to WSVN, Carroll has already posted bond and was able to leave the jail on the very same day he was booked.

After searching through the Miami-Dade County Corrections and Rehabilitation inmate roster, his name could not be found on the list. We were also unable to locate information about the arrest itself or the arrest that happened in 2024.

According to the same article by WSVN, Carroll had spat on and slapped his wife, which is what resulted in the first arrest. However, similarly to this incident, he was also able to post bond on the very same day.

Reinstatement Is Possible, but Far From Guaranteed

Reinstating officers after they’ve been terminated is not something new and happens pretty often across the country. Oftentimes, they will be reassigned to avoid permanent blacklisting from the force.

However, considering that Thomas Carroll has already posted bail, it is uncertain how much time will pass before he is reinstated, if at all. The case is apparently being investigated internally, which I feel doesn’t need to happen considering how blatantly obvious it is to determine whether or not he was driving under the influence.

Again, the court records do not appear on the Miami-Dade Corrections website, and it is unclear exactly how long ago this happened.
