Dash and body camera footage captures so much these days that we have no shortage of candid shots of people behaving badly. However, there’s one video making the rounds recently that appears to show a person in hot pursuit of what looks to be a suspected drunk driver, and it’s been posted by the account that goes by @buttery_films on Instagram.

However, the video wasn’t supplied by any law enforcement agency. Instead, it seems like it was shot by a concerned citizen who followed an erratic driver on a terrifying ride down I-15, where the vehicle swerves in and out of traffic and even collides with other vehicles.

The video also shows the moment two bystanders caught up with the man, breaking his driver’s-side window with a pickaxe before pulling him out and making him sit down next to the barrier while they apparently waited for help to arrive.

Now, people in the comments are commending the man for his “citizen’s arrest” while asking how something like this could happen, and how things didn’t end up going worse for the other drivers who were on the road at the same time.

The Incident Happened on a San Diego Interstate

Several different social media accounts shared the clip, including a Redditor who posted the video to the PublicFreakout subreddit. “Thankfully these guys were there to stop him,” user highfrequencies11 wrote. “This could’ve ended so much worse.”

At one point in the video, the driver appeared to crash into a bus before continuing to drive on. The car eventually went off to the side of the road, and two men jumped out to get the driver out of the car. But the man wouldn’t open the door, so one guy grabbed a pickaxe and busted out the window.

The footage then showed the inside of the car where the driver appeared to be tied to the seat instead of wearing a standard seatbelt.

People Speculated About What Happened on Reddit

It seems like many people seemed to be on the same page when it came to their theories about the driver being intoxicated, even though it wasn’t confirmed in the video. “Man, there’s drunk, and then there is druuuuunk,” one person commented on Reddit.

“Had the nerve to try to drive and couldn’t even walk, shaking my head,” another person wrote.

“Yeah, I am 100 percent against any drunk driving, but this guy was not two beers and then drove; this was two beers every ten minutes for two hours,” another person speculated.

Another Post About the Video Claimed to Have More Info

Andrew Moran posted on Facebook, offering more insight into the incident, saying that the stretch of road the driver was on was near Mira Mesa. The account went on to say that multiple cars were hit while the driver was on the road.

The post also went on to claim that California Highway Patrol showed up shortly after the video ended, arresting the driver. However, there doesn’t appear to be any confirmation of the arrest anywhere else online.
