Two Louisiana men are sitting in the Livingston Parish Detention Center after detectives connected them to a string of vehicle burglaries spanning two months, according to the sheriff’s office. James Burke Cassidy and Shaun McKinney were each arrested on approximately 18 counts of vehicle burglary, and investigators say the case might not end there.

The Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office Burglary Division began investigating several vehicle burglaries that occurred on the eastern side of the parish during August and September 2026. Detectives eventually identified Cassidy and McKinney as suspects in the cases and located both men.

Sheriff Jason Ard said investigators believe one of the suspects pawned some of the stolen property and sold other items on the street for cash. The sheriff’s office did not identify which of the two men investigators believe was responsible for selling the property.

Authorities also believe there could be additional victims who have not yet been connected to the investigation. Ard said more charges are possible both in Livingston Parish and in a neighboring jurisdiction as detectives continue working the case.

One Suspect’s Jail Record Shows More

Livingston Parish jail records show Cassidy was booked by the sheriff’s office at approximately 2:14 p.m. on September 16. His booking record lists numerous vehicle burglary counts along with one count identified as simple burglary of movable property.

The individual vehicle burglary entries carry bonds ranging from $15,000 to $75,000 depending on the number of counts grouped under each entry. Several are listed individually, while another entry groups five vehicle burglary counts together with a $75,000 bond.

The jail record therefore provides considerably more detail about Cassidy’s booking than the sheriff’s public announcement, but the sheriff described the broader investigation as involving approximately 18 vehicle burglary counts for each suspect. Cassidy remained listed in the Livingston Parish Detention Center in the information available at the time of our search.

More Info Could Surface

McKinney also remained in the Livingston Parish Detention Center, according to the sheriff’s office’s latest update. The department said both men were taken into custody after detectives connected them to the vehicle burglary investigation.

What remains unresolved is exactly how far that investigation could spread beyond the cases already identified. The sheriff specifically noted the possibility of additional victims and charges not only in Livingston Parish but also in a neighboring jurisdiction.

For now, Cassidy and McKinney face accusations stemming from a string of vehicle burglaries investigators say occurred across August and September. With detectives still investigating and the sheriff openly anticipating the possibility of more cases, the current charge totals might not be the final ones.

As always, both McKinney and Cassidy are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
