It’s early Tuesday morning, and you’re on your daily commute, but for one loaded truck driver, it took a dangerous turn in Washington County, Wisconsin.

A loaded concrete truck rolled over at an intersection, spilling debris across the roadway and causing minor damage to a car heading in the opposite direction.

The crash happened at around 7:21 a.m. on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, at the intersection of Highway 164 and County Highway E, according to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

The concrete truck, operated by Schmitz Concrete, was making a turn when it overturned into the eastbound lane, putting a nearby motorist in danger. Despite the dramatic nature of the crash, the truck driver came away with only minor injuries, and the driver of the oncoming car escaped completely unharmed.

Concrete Truck Rolls Into Oncoming Traffic

Deputies from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene alongside the Wisconsin State Patrol, Slinger Fire Department, and Lifestar Rescue.

How did that happen? Well, after an initial investigation, it was found that the truck had been traveling southbound on Highway 164 before attempting to turn west onto County Highway E.

However, the loaded concrete truck reportedly took the corner at too high a speed, causing it to roll over and end up in the eastbound lane of traffic.

The overturned truck narrowly missed an eastbound car, although debris from the crash struck the vehicle, causing minor damage.

With a large commercial truck overturned across part of the roadway, the incident could easily have had more serious consequences. Fortunately, neither the truck driver nor the motorist in the other vehicle suffered serious injuries.

Highway Closed as Crews Clear the Scene

The incident prompted the closure of County Highway E at Highway 164 in both directions while emergency crews worked to clear the wreckage and debris.

The Washington County Highway Shop also assisted with cleanup efforts, with the collaborative effort allowing the road to reopen ahead of the planned noon deadline on Tuesday.

The crash serves as a stark reminder of the risks associated with operating heavy commercial vehicles, particularly when navigating turns with a full load. Taking a corner too quickly can have serious consequences because a truck’s high center of gravity and the weight of its cargo can shift as the vehicle turns, increasing the risk of a rollover.

Unlike smaller vehicles, loaded concrete trucks are particularly vulnerable to losing stability when cornering at excessive speeds. Such incidents can endanger not only the truck driver but also other motorists nearby, as an overturning truck can spill debris into adjacent lanes and leave other drivers with little time to react.
