A man in Las Vegas, Nevada, is facing multiple serious charges after he allegedly crashed his vehicle while street racing, injuring five people as a result. Police said that among those five was a four-year-old boy, who was inside the man’s car at the time of the collision.

As reported by FOX5, citing the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD), the incident occurred on Saturday, June 27. Near the intersection of Lake Mead Boulevard and North Walnut Road, a collision involving two vehicles ocurred.

An arrest report obtained by the Las Vegas Review-Journal detailed that the LVMPD received reports of the crash at around 1:20 p.m. Upon arrival, officers came across a chaotic scene, as a 2011 Infiniti G and a 2017 Nissan Pathfinder sustained heavy damage, and a total of five people were injured.

Subsequent review of the dashcam and store camera footage, however, revealed the truth. The driver of the Infiniti, later identified as 24-year-old Raudel Luna, was allegedly street racing.

Street Racing Leads to Collision

The footage in question showed Luna’s Infiniti and a sports motorcycle street racing side-by-side, police said. At the time, the Nissan was making a left turn on Lake Mead Boulevard when the Infiniti struck it.

“At first sight of the collision scene, it was as if a bomb had exploded,” Luna’s arrest report said. “Vehicle debris was scattered throughout Lake Mead Boulevard and Walnut Road.”

Police investigation concluded that both Luna and the Nissan driver were not impaired at the time of the crash. However, Luna did not have a driver’s license when the crash occurred, police said, and records showed prior reckless driving charges where he was accused of being behind the wheel without a driver’s license.

Five People Injured

KLAS reported that five people, including Luna, were injured as a result of the crash. Inside the Nissan was an elderly couple: a 74-year-old driver and a 71-year-old female passenger. The driver sustained life-threatening injuries, including a broken back, while the passenger suffered serious injuries, including a broken right wrist.

Meanwhile, besides Luna, two other people were inside the Infiniti. A 25-year-old female passenger suffered minor injuries to the head, neck, and back. Then, a 4-year-old boy sustained serious injuries, including bruising and internal injuries.

Witnesses talked to FOX5 and detailed the harrowing moments following the crash. One said, “My partner, he took the baby out at first. So, that was the first one that came out.”

Luna, meanwhile, also sustained injuries, although unspecified by the LVMPD, the Review-Journal reported. All the injured were transported to University Medical Center.

Arrested and Charged

Raudel Lune is facing multiple serious charges. These include three counts of felony reckless driving and one felony count of child abuse or neglect.

If convicted of his reckless driving charges, he could face up to 18 years in prison total. The child abuse or neglect charge alone, meanwhile, could land him behind bars for up to 20 years.

As per KTNV, Luna has since posted bail, and his next court appearance is scheduled for July 29. According to witnesses, the sports motorcycle driver left the scene following the crash.
