A call about liquor bottles flying from the window of a moving vehicle turned into a lengthy list of charges for a 63-year-old Kentucky woman. The Christian County Sheriff’s Office says deputies were called at around 5 p.m. on August 22 after someone spotted the bottles being thrown from a vehicle.
Deputies located the rental car on Monkey Norman Road and identified its driver as Hopkinsville resident Kimberly Binder. According to the sheriff’s office, deputies witnessed Binder driving recklessly before pulling her over.
Things did not get any calmer once the vehicle stopped. Deputies said Binder had slurred speech, struggled to maintain her balance, and showed several other signs that she was under the influence.
Damage discovered on the rental car also appeared consistent with the vehicle having sideswiped something. What it may have struck wasn’t specified in the sheriff’s office’s account.
Traffic Stop Turns Physical During Arrest
Deputies moved to take Binder into custody, but the sheriff’s office says she punched one of them and threatened further violence. The confrontation apparently continued even after she was transported to a hospital, where deputies said she kicked an officer.
By the end of the incident, the original call about bottles being tossed from a car had ballooned considerably. Binder now faces nine separate charges stemming from the traffic stop and subsequent confrontation.
Those charges include reckless driving, third-offense operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol, menacing, resisting arrest, third-degree assault of a police officer, first-degree criminal mischief, third-degree terroristic threatening, second-degree disorderly conduct, and failure of a non-owner operator to maintain required insurance.
A Third DUI Charge Makes the Case More Serious
Perhaps the most notable detail among those charges is the sheriff’s office identifying this as Binder’s third alcohol-related DUI offense. Combined with the assault, resisting, and threatening charges, what began with a reckless-driving complaint has left her facing considerably more than a routine traffic case.
The rental car creates another strange wrinkle, particularly since deputies said it had damage consistent with sideswiping an object. One commenter also questioned how the insurance charge applied to a rental vehicle, although the sheriff’s office did not provide additional details explaining that portion of the case.
No injuries to the deputies were mentioned in the department’s post. The sheriff’s office also did not identify whatever may have been struck by the rental car before deputies located it.
Comments React to Binder’s Long List of Charges
Unsurprisingly, commenters quickly latched onto Binder’s last name, with one joking that it should have been “bender” because she was “on one.” Another followed up with the obvious companion joke, noting that the damaged rental car apparently came with a fender bender as well.
Others were much less interested in wordplay and more surprised by just how many charges emerged from the stop. One person remarked that authorities had “really stacked the charges against her,” while another focused specifically on the third DUI offense and concluded, “she done.”
There was also some sympathy mixed into the reactions, with commenters suggesting Binder may have larger issues she needs to address and hoping the arrest becomes a reason to slow down. Others were less forgiving, with one response summing up that side of the discussion simply: “No one should be above the law.”
