Jaguar has spent the past few years preparing for one of the most dramatic transformations in its history. After stepping away from its traditional lineup of luxury sedans and sports cars, the British automaker is preparing to return with an entirely different kind of flagship.

The company’s controversial Type 00 concept offered an early glimpse of that future, introducing an unconventional design language that sparked fierce debate among enthusiasts. Its enormous proportions, minimalist surfaces, and all-electric ambitions made it clear that Jaguar wasn’t interested in playing things safe.

Now, the production version has officially arrived following a high-profile unveiling in New York City. Called the Type 01, it transforms the concept’s dramatic appearance into a four-door luxury grand tourer with some extraordinary performance figures.

Jaguar has also confirmed that customers won’t have to wait much longer to place an order. Reservations are scheduled to open in early 2027, with the first deliveries expected during the second half of the year.

Over 1,000 Horsepower And 400 Miles Of Range

The Type 01 rides on Jaguar’s new Electric Architecture, developed specifically for the company’s next generation of battery-powered vehicles. Three electric motors produce a combined 1,030 PS, equivalent to approximately 1,015 horsepower, alongside 1,007 lb-ft of torque.

Jaguar claims the electric GT can accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in 3.2 seconds and sprint from 62 to 112 mph in just four seconds. Its 118-kWh usable battery and 850-volt electrical system also promise an estimated EPA range of up to 400 miles.

When connected to a compatible 350-kW DC fast charger, the Type 01 can reportedly recover up to 200 miles of range in 13 minutes. Jaguar also quotes approximately 320 miles of range during sustained highway driving.

A Radical Design With Four Doors

The production Type 01 still has the elongated hood, low roofline, and imposing proportions of the Type 00 concept. However, Jaguar has added rear doors, making the finished vehicle a four-door grand tourer rather than a two-door coupe.

Massive 23-inch wheels, flush door handles and distinctive rear bodywork give the car an unmistakable appearance. Active aerodynamic vanes and a three-stage deployable rear spoiler help achieve a drag coefficient of just 0.23, making it Jaguar’s most aerodynamic production car.

The design is unlikely to win over every traditional Jaguar enthusiast, particularly those who associate the brand with elegant combustion-powered sports cars. Nevertheless, the Type 01 certainly succeeds in looking unlike anything else currently wearing the Jaguar badge.

A Minimalist Interior With Some Unusual Features

Inside, a prominent central spine divides the cabin into four individual seating areas. Brass-inspired trim runs through the interior, reinforcing the car’s distinctive approach to luxury.

A 24-inch OLED display sits ahead of the driver, while a smaller seven-inch touchscreen handles frequently used functions. Jaguar has also developed an immersive sound system featuring a full-width panoramic soundbar and audio-enhanced seating.

Orders Open Next Year

Jaguar says the Type 01 will be designed, engineered, and manufactured in the United Kingdom. Pricing is reported to begin at approximately £130,000 in Britain, although official market-specific prices and final ordering details remain to be clarified.

The company is targeting a very different audience from the buyers who once considered its XE and XF sedans. With its extraordinary power, striking design, and luxury-focused positioning, the Type 01 is intended to compete much further upmarket.

It remains to be seen whether customers embrace Jaguar’s new direction. What we can say for certain is that the Type 01 represents the company’s boldest production car in decades, and buyers will soon have the opportunity to decide whether that gamble deserves a place in their garages.
