Driving anywhere is already a risk in and of itself simply because you can never trust the way that other people drive. This driver certainly proved that point when he drove directly into a Gwinnett County Police officer.
The incident itself happened on June 7 at approximately 9:40 pm, but was only posted to the Gwinnett County Police Facebook page on July 2. The driver doesn’t seem to be at all concerned that he’s being arrested, and is actually pretty honest about the entire situation. The girl he was driving wasn’t too keen on being honest, however.
What’s really wild is that there’s a point where the driver quite literally says to the officers that he’s speaking with, “I’m drunk, it’s okay.” Well, no, it’s not okay. You hit a police officer.
While the video definitely does have its funnier points, it’s also a reminder that you have to be doubly aware of those around. On the other side of that same coin, drinking and driving is never okay.
The Officer Couldn’t Believe What Had Just Happened
In the video above, a Gwinnett County Police officer named Cpl. M. Abdelhamid is walking up to a car that had hit a police vehicle and tried to drive away. The driver, Frisly Perez-Aguilar, must not have realized that Abdelhamid was walking towards the vehicle because when he opened the door, Perez-Aguilar tried jumping into the back seat.
He was apprehended pretty quickly and put in handcuffs. Abdelhamid couldn’t believe that the suspect would do something dumb like that, so he retells the story of what happened to another officer.
In the passenger seat of the car was a woman, so Abdelhamid went back to the vehicle to ask her questions. She wasn’t all too willing to answer anything, with the officer even accusing her of lying to him because of her responses.
Even Getting Into the Patrol Car Became a Challenge
After talking with the woman, the officers went over to their police SUV and spoke with Perez-Aguilar. At this point, that’s when he explained, “I’m drunk, it’s okay.”
Abdelhamid responds back with, “It’s okay,” to which Perez-Aguilar replies, “I’m sure.” To be extra sure that he didn’t pose any more of a threat, the officers patted him down for anything else.
After being sure, they led him directly into their cruiser, hoping to put him in the back seat. This proved to be a little bit more difficult than expected, as Perez-Aguilar immediately fell face-first into the seats. Since his hands were handcuffed behind him, the officers had to help him readjust.
Commenters Had Plenty To Say About the Driver’s Excuse
The comments roasted the suspect, with one of my favorite reading, “That dude is plastered the lord works in mysterious ways. Lol.”
Another thanks the officers who helped, with Cpl. Abdelhamid being recognized specifically, reading, “Cpl. Abdelhamid is a huge asset to GCPD!”
After further research was conducted, I could not locate an official police report within the Gwinnett County Police, meaning I could not locate the official charges that were filed. As with all criminal cases, the suspect is considered innocent unless proven otherwise in a court of law.
