A Honda Accord owner says she spent three years fighting to get her vehicle repaired, only to face repeated claim denials, questionable diagnoses, and an estimated $5,000 bill for a blown head gasket.
The owner, who posts on TikTok as Budget with Brenda, described her experience in a video about her ongoing dispute with Honda and whether a newly announced warranty extension could finally help.
According to Brenda, Honda rejected her previous attempts to obtain coverage because of her vehicle’s mileage. She also questioned the reliability of earlier dealership diagnoses after spending months pursuing repairs that did not resolve the underlying problem.
Now that her Accord is no longer drivable, she says Honda’s expanded head gasket warranty could provide a solution. However, at the time of her video, she was still waiting to learn whether Honda would approve her latest repair claim.
Three Years of Trouble

Brenda described a series of frustrating dealership visits where she believes the mechanics repeatedly failed to identify her Accord’s real problem.
“It was misdiagnosis after misdiagnosis and useless repairs until they finally diagnosed it with the head gasket and were charging me $5,000,” she said.
She decided against authorizing the expensive repair immediately, partly because she was concerned the dealership might have made another incorrect diagnosis.
Brenda also said she discovered other Honda owners reporting similar engine problems online, which contributed to her concerns about paying thousands of dollars without knowing whether the repair would work.
Her account has not been independently verified against dealership invoices, repair records, or Honda’s correspondence.
Honda Extends Coverage
On August 26, 2026, American Honda announced a cylinder head gasket warranty extension covering certain Accord, Civic, and CR-V vehicles.
The extension covers qualifying head gasket failures for 10 years from the original purchase date or 150,000 miles, whichever comes first.
Honda’s service bulletins explain that reduced head gasket effectiveness can cause coolant loss, engine overheating, and misfires. Depending on the damage found during inspection, covered repairs may include replacing the head gasket and, in some cases, additional engine components.
The program is a warranty extension, not a safety recall. Owners must have their vehicles checked for eligibility, and the repair must meet Honda’s applicable coverage requirements.
Brenda said her Accord was below the newly announced 150,000-mile limit, raising the possibility that the repair she had previously been quoted $5,000 for might now qualify for coverage.
Awaiting Honda’s Decision
Although the warranty extension is a significant development in Brenda’s dispute, it does not automatically mean every repair she previously requested should have been covered.
Honda’s published repair instructions require dealerships to verify vehicle eligibility and inspect the engine for the specified condition. Honda has not independently established the model year, exact mileage, or repair documentation for Brenda’s Accord.
Brenda said she filed another claim and was waiting to hear whether Honda would authorize the work.
“I’ve been on a roller coaster of emotions with Honda for the past three years,” she said.
At the time of the video, she had not received final approval or completed the repair.
