A Florida man is facing several drug charges after the Dixie County Sheriff’s Office deputies stopped Roy Lee McDaniel while he was cruising along NE 799th Street in Old Town. The issue? McDaniel was spotted driving a vehicle that deputies didn’t consider roadworthy.
That could be because he was driving a red lawnmower at the time of the stop, which the Dixie County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page says “does not meet the safety requirements to operate as a registered vehicle on state or county roadways.”
But the lawnmower incident may prove to be the least of McDaniel’s worries, according to the rest of the post, which went on to describe in detail a list of illegal items reportedly found with the Florida man during the stop. Not only that, but the deputy who performed the stop said that McDaniel also admitted to smoking marijuana earlier in the day.
Now, he stands accused of at least three different charges. According to the sheriff’s office, he is now in the Dixie County Jail awaiting his day in court.

The Facebook post says that a deputy from the Narcotic Interdiction Unit was the one to spot McDaniel riding the mower southbound on Old Town Street. He quickly conducted a traffic stop and identified the rider as McDaniel.
After that, the deputy said he smelled the “strong odor” of marijuana. After his confession about smoking earlier in the day, the deputy performed a probable cause search of a bag that McDaniel allegedly claimed was his, which reportedly contained additional drugs.
The Drugs Were Identified Through Testing
According to the Dixie County Sheriff’s Office, later testing was able to confirm what kinds of drugs were found in the bag, and they included methamphetamine and clonazepam. The bag also reportedly contained a hypodermic needle as well.
McDaniel was then charged with Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Possession of a Controlled Substance Without a Prescription.
“Sometimes, proactive law enforcement starts with something as simple as a lawn mower traveling down a county road,” the post continued. “Our deputies remain committed to looking beyond the initial violation, recognizing indicators of criminal activity, and keeping illegal drugs off the streets of Dixie County.”
While the sheriff’s office did share the full details of the arrest, they ended their post with a reminder that all suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
