A man in Miami-Dade County, Florida, is facing multiple charges after he was allegedly caught recklessly driving a yellow school bus. Authorities said that not only did the driver not have a commercial license, but that he never had one. Ever.
According to a Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office (MDSO) arrest report obtained by WPLG, the incident occurred on Saturday, August 1. At around 3:14 p.m., deputies were alerted to several reports involving a yellow school bus.
Multiple people had called the authorities about a bus driving recklessly in the area of Southwest 104th Avenue and Southwest 172nd Street. A man, who was then identified as 23-year-old Erick Anthony Moore, was the one behind the wheel, the MDSO said.
Eventually, deputies found Moore near Hibiscus Street and Homestead Avenue. Things got weird from that moment on.
No Commercial License, Ever
Deputies approached Moore and began asking questions. The arrest report detailed that the 23-year-old was unable to provide information regarding the school bus’s owner.
The MDSO then found that Moore had a suspended driver’s license. Not only that, but deputies also found that no commercial driver’s license had ever been issued in his name.
To make matters worse, the bus itself was a source of an additional violation. Investigators determined that it was an unregistered school bus.
Active Warrant
It appears that Moore’s reported reckless driving was going to be a source of many more issues for him. Deputies learned that he had a possible active fugitive warrant.
Later, the MCSO Warrants Bureau confirmed that the warrant was, in fact, active. As a result, the Florida man was placed under arrest, without incident.
Footage posted by Cutler Bay Social and shared by WPLG showed Moore being placed in handcuffs while sitting on the ground. Before his arrest, the man could be seen wearing a high-visibility vest, similar to a safety vest a legitimate driver might use.
Arrested and Charged
Erick Anthony Moore now faces mulitple traffic citations and charges. These include driving with a suspended license, operating a commercial vehicle without a commercial driver’s license, and operating an unregistered vehicle.
If convicted of the operating charge, Moore could spend up to a year behind bars. If this incident resulted in his first driving while suspended offense, he could get an additional 60 days in jail.
The Florida man is currently being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. Jail records cited by the outlet showed his bond was set at $600. He, however, remains jailed due to an out-of-county warrant.
