Crime appears to be a family affair for a Florida man and his mom. Fox 13 News reports that officers in Winter Haven were on the hunt for Segre Nombre, who had an outstanding warrant. They arrived at the home of Nombre’s mother, who told officers that her son wasn’t around, but that they could come in and look around if they wanted to.

Winter Haven Police Department officers got more than they bargained for during their search when they found an oddly shaped lump coming from the middle of a mattress that had been left sitting on the ground.

According to reports, chaos ensued after officers realized that the lump was none other than Nombre himself. Then, an all-out melee ensued when Nombre’s mother allegedly attacked police as they tried to take him into custody.

Now, it looks like both Mia Jones and her son are in some serious legal trouble and facing multiple charges.

Jones Allegedly Helped Her Son Hide When Police Arrived

According to the Fox 13 News report on the story, police showed up at Jones’ Winter Haven home on Aug. 15, 2026. They were looking for the 24-year-old, who had an active felony warrant at the time. When Jones answered the door, she told officers her son wasn’t home, but permitted them to come inside.

Officers say that they found a mattress on the floor of one of the bedrooms that had an unusual lump underneath it. When they picked the mattress up, they discovered Nombre hiding under it.

Nombre Called Out to His Mom as Officers Tried to Get Him off the Ground

It doesn’t sound like Nombre wanted to be taken into custody, and News Channel 8 reports that he began calling to his mom as the officers tried to get him to stand up. That’s when Jones allegedly ran into the room, grabbing one of the officers from behind before swinging at the officer.

One of the officers responded by tasing Jones, which she reportedly was able to push through, requiring a second shock. After she was subdued, Nombre was taken into custody, and Jones was taken to the hospital for medical evaluation, where officers later found meth on her person.

Both Mother and Son Now Face Charges

According to Fox 13 News, Jones is being charged with resisting officers with violence, possession of methamphetamine, battery on a law enforcement officer, possession of drug paraphernalia, and assault on a law enforcement officer.

Meanwhile, Nombre continues to face the original felony battery charges that the police were originally there to arrest him for.

People Found the Entire Story Very Funny Online

On the News Channel 8 Facebook post, people jumped into the comments to laugh about the ordeal. “This is quite a story! I did like the part ‘Fearing being struck, the sergeant deployed her agency-issued Taser, which Jones initially fought through, but later gained compliance after a second round,'” one person wrote, quoting a line from the story.

On the Fox 13 News Facebook post, another commenter joked about how Jones doesn’t look too remorseful in her mug shot, writing, “Her smirk says she’ll do it again.”

“Only in Florida,” yet another person joked.

Well, the pair will likely have to spend the next few holidays apart as they work through their legal troubles, but at least Nombre can rest easy knowing that his mom has his back… even when it’s really not in her best interests to do so!
