A Florida driver caught going 135 mph on a Jacksonville interstate had a pretty simple explanation for what he was doing. He told the officer he was just “enjoying his night,” according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

The driver also had an open bottle of tequila in his car. If that wasn’t enough, police said he had been speeding through an active construction zone where workers were present.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office shared video of the traffic stop, which started on Interstate 95 and ended near the ramps to Interstate 295.

Officer Nicholas Whisman with the sheriff’s office’s Specialized Traffic Enforcement Unit was driving along I-95 when a dark-colored car came racing past him.

The driver kept going, and the traffic stop continued onto I-10. Police said the car was traveling at 135 mph, including through an active work zone.

There were construction workers in the area at the time. The sheriff’s office said the driver’s speed put their lives in danger.

Driver Finally Stops Near I-295

The driver didn’t stop until he was approaching the ramps to I-295. He pulled over and got out of the car. Video released by the sheriff’s office shows the driver exiting the vehicle and lying down on the pavement.

Police identified him as 22-year-old Zyon Jackson. When Whisman spoke with him, Jackson said he had just been enjoying his night. The officer also found out about the open bottle of tequila in the car.

Driver Arrested on Four Charges

Jackson was arrested on four charges: driving under the influence, driving 100 mph or more, reckless driving, and speeding in a work zone. He also received a separate citation for having an open bottle of tequila in the vehicle.

The sheriff’s office didn’t find much humor in the situation, especially with construction workers nearby.

“Not cool,” the agency wrote in its Facebook post. Police ended the post with a reminder for Jacksonville drivers to drive safely and sober.
