A Converse, Texas, family still received its DoorDash order after firefighters said the delivery driver was involved in a crash and taken to a hospital. According to KENS 5, Converse firefighters responded to a motor vehicle accident Thursday evening. Once they arrived, they learned the crash involved a DoorDash driver who had not finished a delivery.

The Converse Fire Department said the driver was unable to complete the order because of the crash. Firefighters then noticed the food inside the damaged vehicle. They also knew a family was still waiting for the meal.

So, the firefighters took the order to the home themselves. The department said the crew knocked on the door and handed over the meal in person. Fortunately, KENS 5 reported that the food was still warm when it reached the family.

The department did not release the driver’s name or identify the family that received the order. Officials also did not provide an update on the driver’s condition beyond saying he was taken to a hospital. However, the department said the firefighters were able to help the family in a small way after responding to the crash.

Firefighters Briefly Take on Gig Work to Help Driver in Distress

The Converse Fire Department said the crew discovered the food order while responding to the crash. The driver could no longer complete the delivery because he was being taken for medical treatment. So, after handling the emergency call, firefighters decided the order should still get to the family that was waiting for it.

According to the department, the crew brought the DoorDash order to the address and knocked on the door themselves. The family was understandably surprised when firefighters arrived with the delivery instead of the original driver. Fortunately, KENS 5 reported that the food was still warm by the time it reached the home.

What’s Still Unknown About the Converse Crash?

Officials have not released many details about the crash itself. It is still unknown what caused the accident, where exactly it happened in Converse, or whether any other vehicles were involved. Police also have not said whether any citations were issued.

There is also no public update on the DoorDash driver’s condition beyond the report that he was hospitalized. DoorDash had not been reported as issuing a statement on the incident as of the latest available coverage.
