An Indiana man was arrested last week after breaking into an elementary school, and jumping in a river as he escaped.

According to the City of Elkhart, on September 22, police received reports of a man peeking through the windows of Beardsley Elementary School — he would have had to jump the fence to get there.

A Dip in the River

While cops chased the suspect, Lundy jumped into a nearby river and hid under a boat.

Officials told the man multiple times to leave the river, which he refused to do. The cops resorted to using pepper spray in attempts to force Lundy to obey

Eventually, officials were able to pull the 38-year-old out of the water, where he continued to resist arrest, this time unsuccessfully.

During the whole ordeal, the elementary school was placed on lockdown until Lundy’s arrest. He was detained before he entered the school.

A Medical Emergency?

Shortly after his arrest, things took a turn.

Officers determined Lundy needed medical treatment after the river incident due to preexisting health conditions.

“Based on the subject’s extensive medical needs and the expectation that his treatment would be ongoing, officers made the determination to release him from police custody so he could receive the necessary medical care at the hospital,” the press release reads.

The Elkhart Police Department’s plan was to proceed in the charges against him while he’s in the hospital. But shortly after he was dropped off at the medical center, Lundy fled again, this time with medical devices connected to him.

The Elkhart Police Department was called again, and officers found him not far from the hospital. The 38-year-old resisted detainment again, so cops used a Taser and “chemical irritant” to subdue him.

The cops took him back to the hospital, and the next day, he was cleared to return to jail.

Lundy’s Charges

For his actions, Lundy faces five charges, including criminal vandalism, public nudity, criminal trespass, and resisting law enforcement. Three of the charges are felonies.

The 38-year-old is being held on a $50,000 bond.

In Indiana, if Lundy is convicted of the Level 6 felony criminal trespass, he could face up to 2.5 years in prison, and up to $10,000 in fines.

Additionally, if the suspect is found guilty of resisting law enforcement, another Level 6 felony, he could be behind bars for up to 2.5 years, and be ordered to pay up to $10,000.
