One driver’s trip ended in a terrifying crash after a vehicle left the roadway, overturned, and landed in a Connecticut river.
Before firefighters and EMS arrived, responding police officers and a nearby homeowner rushed into action, helping pull the driver from the overturned vehicle and out of the water.
According to the Stony Hill Volunteer Fire Company, the driver was later taken to Danbury Hospital for treatment.
While the rescue ended safely, recovering the vehicle proved to be another challenge. Crews eventually brought in a heavy-duty crane to lift the overturned car from the river.
Officers and a Neighbor Didn’t Wait
Emergency crews responded Friday after receiving reports of a vehicle that had left the roadway and flipped into the river in Bethel.
Police officers and a nearby resident reached the driver first, helping free the occupant before firefighters and paramedics arrived to complete the rescue.
Once the driver was safely on shore, crews turned their attention to the vehicle and the overturned car was taken from the scene.
