Some cars need a quick wash and vacuum. This 2019 Chevrolet Blazer needed something closer to an intervention after years of gravel-road driving left virtually every corner coated in dirt, stains, dust, and grime.
The SUV recently landed in the hands of The Detail Geek, whose YouTube channel has become known for dramatic automotive detailing transformations. Even by his standards, however, the Blazer presented a serious challenge, particularly once the condition of the interior became clear.
With more than 127,000 km, or roughly 79,000 miles, on the odometer, the Blazer has spent much of its life traveling on gravel roads. Dirt was packed into its wheel barrels, tailgate jamb, and exterior crevices, while the paint underneath revealed plenty of scratches, swirl marks, and rock chips.
Things were considerably worse inside, where heavily stained seats and filthy carpets awaited. Getting the Chevy presentable again ultimately required around 12 hours of work, but the finished result barely resembles the vehicle that arrived.
Years Of Gravel Roads Left Their Mark
The exterior cleanup began with extensive pressure washing, which quickly revealed just how deeply dirt had accumulated. Some areas continually released mud as they were sprayed, while the wheels reportedly had around an inch of caked-on debris inside their barrels.
The front end also wore a stubborn collection of old bug remains that couldn’t be removed with water alone. Dedicated bug remover was used before the body was thoroughly washed and dried, although the scratches and stone chips accumulated over thousands of miles naturally remained.
The Interior Was The Real Challenge
Removing the front seats exposed the full extent of the mess. The rear carpet was described as some of the dirtiest The Detail Geek had encountered, with debris becoming embedded in the inexpensive carpet fibers.
Vacuuming removed the loose material before carpet cleaner and a drill brush were used on the extensive staining. The seats received the same treatment across their cushions, sides, and backs, while an extractor pulled a particularly unpleasant-looking slurry of dirty water from the upholstery.
Getting every last piece of debris out wasn’t realistic because of how tightly some material had become embedded in the carpet. The Detail Geek instead aimed for roughly a 95-percent improvement, which still produced a dramatic difference.
Steam And Cleaner Tackled The Remaining Grime
Attention then shifted toward the dashboard and other hard interior surfaces, where sticky residue had accumulated. A combination of diluted all-purpose cleaner and steam was used to break down the grime before the plastics received an interior protectant with a matte finish.
Even the glass required serious attention. The inside of the windshield was covered with a thick film, while the rest of the windows were thoroughly cleaned to complete the cabin transformation.
Twelve Hours Later, It Barely Looked Like The Same Blazer
After roughly 12 hours of cleaning, the Blazer’s exterior was presentable again, and its cabin looked dramatically different. The stained seats were restored to their original light appearance, the carpets were largely rescued, and years of accumulated dirt had disappeared from the places where it had been hiding.
The owner’s reaction said plenty when she saw the finished SUV, repeatedly describing the result as looking almost new. She also confirmed that frequent gravel-road driving was responsible for much of the dust and dirt that had accumulated throughout the vehicle.
A pristine show car this Blazer isn’t, with its paint still carrying the scars of nearly 80,000 miles of hard use. Considering where it started, though, a deep clean was enough to prove that an apparently trashed interior doesn’t necessarily mean a vehicle is beyond saving.
