A Detroit man accused of impersonating a U.S. Marshal and robbing three people at gunpoint at a Michigan motel has a lengthy criminal history that includes previous convictions for armed robbery and impersonating a peace officer.
55-year-old Tremain Vernon Jones was arraigned Friday, September 25, in connection with a July 31, 2026, robbery at the Victory Inn in Roseville, Michigan. Booking information shows Jones was arrested by the Roseville Police Department.
According to Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido, Jones allegedly dressed as a U.S. Marshal and robbed three people at gunpoint.
Jones is also known by several aliases, including “Papa Bear,” according to Michigan Department of Corrections records.
The Charges
The prosecutor’s office says Jones faces three counts of armed robbery, five counts of felony firearm, and two counts of impersonating a peace officer to commit a crime.
The armed robbery charges are punishable by life in prison or any term of years. The felony firearm charges carry two-year sentences that are served consecutively to the connected felony charges, while impersonating a peace officer to commit a crime carries up to four years.
Prosecutors have also filed a Fourth Offense Habitual Offender notice. According to the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office, the enhancement carries a mandatory minimum sentence of 25 years and a maximum of life in prison.
Judge Kathleen E. Tocco set Jones’ bond at $750,000 cash or surety only. If released, Jones must wear a steel cuff tether and have no contact with the Victory Inn or any alleged victims.
Previous Convictions
Michigan Department of Corrections records show Jones has a lengthy history of felony convictions dating back to 2005.
His record includes multiple convictions for armed robbery, including two counts stemming from a July 7, 2005, offense and two additional counts connected to an Aug. 11, 2005, offense. He was also convicted of carjacking, home invasion, extortion, assault with intent to rob while armed, kidnapping, and felony firearm.
Jones also has multiple previous convictions for impersonating a peace officer to commit a crime. MDOC records show convictions for the offense in both Wayne and Macomb counties.
His most recent listed conviction was for attempted obtaining a signature with intent to defraud, stemming from a 2016 offense in Gogebic County. MDOC records also show Jones was released from state custody on Aug. 11, 2026.
Case Heads Toward Court
Lucido said the alleged use of a federal law enforcement disguise made the accusations particularly serious.
“Robbing someone at gunpoint is a serious and frightening crime, and allegedly disguising yourself as a federal law enforcement officer to carry it out makes these accusations particularly disturbing,” Lucido said.
Jones is scheduled for a probable cause conference before Judge Joseph F. Boedeker at the 39th District Court on October 7 at 8:30 a.m.
The current charges are allegations, and Jones is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
