However, Vanessa Phillips’ most recent cruise was less about kicking back in the sunshine and more about getting some sweet revenge after claiming that she had been scammed by Armonte Wilson. Phillips documented the moment she confronted Wilson while they both sailed the high seas, surprising him by showing up jacuzzi-side when he thought she was still back home.
She posted the video to Facebook, and the moment instantly went viral due to the nature of the story—like how she showed up unexpectedly and demanded her $1,100 while Wilson was scantily clad in the jacuzzi. And the best part of the story? Because it has gone mega viral, both Phillips and Wilson have shared even more about what happened, including giving interviews explaining their sides of the story. While it has unfortunately turned into a major “he said, she said” moment for the pair, the internet is absolutely loving every moment of the ordeal.
The Duo Only Recently Met On Another Cruise
In the original video, Phillips explained the backstory of how she and Wilson met. According to the caption on the clip, the pair first crossed paths on an MSC cruise in December 2025. “This person was looking for a partner to sail with from August 30 to September 6,” she wrote, saying that she reached out to him to make plans to travel together.
During that time, she said that she was giving an itinerary, agent booking numbers, and invoices, all of which she claims were faked. Then, once she headed towards Galveston to board the cruise, she says that her sailing buddy stopped responding to her messages and blocked her number.
A Phone Call to MSC Revealed a Different Cost for the Cruise
Once she realized that she couldn’t get ahold of her travel partner, she called the company directly, which is when she was told that the trip had only been booked in his name and only cost him $524. “So why did he tell me that it cost $1100, you ask? I asked the same thing,” her caption continued.
This is when she says she came up with the idea to book her own ticket for the cruise and confront him on the ship. Things got very heated between the two once they got together, and he eventually got out of the jacuzzi and went off to get security, which is when the video cut off.
An Interview Between the Two Offers More Insight Into What May Have Happened
Phillips repeated her story during a chat with USA Today, telling them what she said led up to the viral moment. The outlet also shared what Wilson had to say via a since-deleted TikTok live.
The outlet reported that Wilson said he initially grew worried about the pair’s planned trip when he received a dispute on the payments that he had received for the tickets, which he claims caused his Venmo account to get suspended and eventually go into the negative.
Given everything that transpired with his Venmo account, he told the outlet he had still been willing to move forward with the trip as long as Phillips admitted to what had happened. But when he didn’t hear from her by the time he arrived at the port, he said that he decided to drop her from the trip instead.
The Pair Can’t Agree on What Really Went Down
When Phillips heard Wilson’s claims, she said that the timeline was off, telling USA Today that she only disputed the charges after Wilson ghosted her.
While both parties say they are still working to get to the bottom of what happened, people on social media were eager to weigh in on what happened, often with hilarious takes. “Do you know how mad you have to be to book a ticket on a cruise just to confront someone? The harness is getting way more attention than that one little fact,” one person wrote in reference to the man’s swimsuit. “She said by land, sea, and air.
