A Nissan GT-R is spending the next 30 days off the road after California Highway Patrol officers said they caught it participating in an illegal street race on a San Diego-area freeway.

CHP’s San Diego Area office shared a photo of the car loaded onto a flatbed and said officers took enforcement action that resulted in a 30-day seizure.

The agency did not identify the driver, specify which freeway the alleged race occurred on, or provide speeds or additional information about the other vehicle or vehicles involved.

CHP described the conduct as dangerous to both the participants and other drivers using the freeway.

CHP said the GT-R was observed participating in the illegal race before San Diego Area officers intervened and seized it for 30 days.

The agency characterized street racing as not only dangerous but also “malicious,” warning that it places uninvolved motorists at risk, as well as the people taking part.

The post quickly drew a mix of jokes and skepticism from commenters. Several jokingly supplied the unidentified driver with alibis, while others asked CHP to release footage of the alleged race.

One commenter claimed the driver had been at a barbecue, while another joked that he had been in Nevada. Others focused less on the racing allegation and more on how the GT-R appeared to have been secured to the tow truck.

CHP did not indicate in the post whether the driver was arrested or cited, or identify any additional enforcement action beyond the 30-day seizure.
