Authorities in Boulder County are asking for the public’s help identifying the driver of a vehicle seen speeding along a bike path in what officials described as a dangerous incident.
According to the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, the vehicle was spotted at approximately 1:38 p.m. on August 2 traveling toward Boulder on the US 36 Bikeway from the Davidson Mesa area. Deputies estimated the vehicle was traveling at speeds of up to 50 mph as it descended the hill along the path.
Although there were no reported injuries, officials said the incident posed a significant safety risk on a route regularly used by cyclists, runners, and pedestrians.
Sheriff’s Office Seeks Driver
Investigators believe the vehicle may have been a black Infiniti or a two-door Nissan Altima coupe with red or pink fuzzy dice hanging from the rearview mirror. The sheriff’s office has released that description in the hope someone will recognize the car or identify the driver.
It remains unclear how the vehicle entered the bike path. However, authorities noted that there is a scenic overlook at the top of Davidson Mesa, where a vehicle could potentially access the paved trail before it is separated from the highway by fencing or concrete barriers.
Anyone with information has been asked to contact the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office as deputies continue their investigation.

Fortunately, there were no reports of anyone being struck or injured during the incident. The sheriff’s office said there did not appear to be any cyclists, joggers, or pedestrians on the section of the path at the time the vehicle was seen traveling along it.
Deputies have not announced whether any criminal charges are being considered and say they first need to identify and speak with the driver.
As of August 5, three days after the post was published, the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office had not announced any arrests or publicly identified the driver. Deputies continue to appeal for information from anyone who recognizes the vehicle or knows who was behind the wheel.
Social Media Users React
The incident quickly drew attention on social media, with many users expressing concern over the potential consequences had the bike path been busier. Naturally, several responses said the outcome could have been far more serious if cyclists or pedestrians had been using the trail at the time.
Others questioned whether surveillance cameras in the area should have helped identify the vehicle, while some debated the broader issue of cars and bicycles sharing road space on public roads.
