Car Impaled by Metal Pole After Truck Ignores Height Restrictions While Exiting Highway

Truck Sends Pole Into Car

A typical day almost turned tragic for one driver in China. The car had been driving on the highway in Suzhou when a metal pole from a nearby off-ramp crossed a few lanes and flew through the passenger side.

Fortunately, no one was seated in that part of the car when it happened, and the driver escaped with only minor injuries. However, this was no freak accident, according to South China Morning Post

Instead, the pole became airborne when a truck struck a height-restriction barrier while exiting the highway. The whole thing was caught on video and has since gone viral, with outlets like CNA sharing it on Facebook.

Now, people online are calling the moment “Final Destination Coded” in the video’s comments.

The Incident Happened July 27, 2026

The post reports that an investigation into exactly what happened is currently underway. That being said, the publication was able to report that the truck that sent the pole flying into traffic had illegally entered the roadway just before the incident.

Based on how many cars are on the road, it looks like this happened during a busy time of day, so it’s amazing that nobody was critically injured during the crash.

Photos Show the Extent of the Damage

If you’ve ever driven on a major road, you know that the poles and signage that line them are typically very big. Looking at the photos and videos from the incident, the extent of the damage becomes much clearer, and you can see that the pole actually sticks out of both ends of the car, entering through the windshield and exiting through the left-rear wheel.

According to content reviewed by AsiaOne, Sina Corporation has reported that trucks of this size are prohibited from using that stretch of road, which is why the roughly eight-foot height-restriction pole was there to begin with.

People Had a Funny Reaction to the Video Online

Once it became clear that the car’s driver was relatively unharmed, people felt free to crack jokes about the terrifying incident in the CNA Facebook post.

“This is so Final Destination coded,” one person wrote, likely in reference to the famous scene where a logging truck loses its load, impaling nearby cars with massive logs.

“People saying the driver should buy a lottery ticket! This was his winning ticket,” another commenter wrote, adding that it was best for them not to press their luck any further.

Another commenter brought up a very good point about whether this was actually a design flaw with the barrier itself, writing, “Let’s talk about why a vertical height restriction bar is made in such a way that if it gets hit, it fires off in a direction like a missile towards traffic,” they wrote. “This ranks up there with the flaming EV battery that gets ejected under the car next to you.”

While officials may ultimately look into why the barrier impaled a passing car, the fact remains that the driver was truly lucky that day. Hopefully they recover quickly from whatever injuries they sustained.
