California Highway Patrol officers in Truckee posted a hilarious warning for drivers concerning knowing your terrain before exploring off-road with your vehicle.
The post features a Tesla Cybertruck in what appears to be a rather large puddle within a densely muddy area. The truck looks to have its back wheels stuck in the water while the front wheels are on drier ground.
Officers made sure to explain in their Facebook post that “just because your vehicle can go somewhere doesn’t always mean it should.”
Commenters were far more blunt in their judgment of the situation, with many filling the comments section with jokes about the Cybertruck and its off-road capabilities.
Cybertruck Driver Attempts To Go Mudding

According to the Tesla website, the Cybertruck is designed to handle a variety of environments and terrain types.
On the homepage, Tesla states that the vehicle is intended “for city driving and off-roading” and advises owners to adapt their driving style to match the terrain. The company also highlights several terrain-focused drive modes, including Wade Mode, which raises the ride height to help the truck navigate through tire-high water.
It appears that feature may have been activated on the Cybertruck seen in the CHP photos, as the vehicle sat noticeably elevated while buried in the mud.
Local Police Offer Advice To Other Drivers
Regardless of the situation, California Highway Patrol officers still used the incident as a teaching moment for anyone thinking about taking their vehicle off-road.
The department wrote, “Nothing says Sunday Funday quite like testing your limits…and finding out the mud had other plans. We’ve said it once and we’ll say it before.. know your terrain before going out and exploring.”
They added, “Stay safe out there… mud still wins. Every. Single. Time.”
The muddy recovery also comes not long after another viral “Cyberstuck” moment made the rounds online, this time involving a Toyota Sienna minivan rescuing a stranded Cybertruck from beach sand. That clip turned into a surprisingly passionate defense of minivans and a fresh round of internet debate over whether the futuristic Tesla pickup is actually as capable off-road as its marketing suggests.
Reactions To Stuck Tesla Cybertruck
Comments under the CHP post were overwhelmingly focused on roasting the Cybertruck. One of the most-liked comments read, “Just because it says it’s a truck, doesn’t mean it is a truck,” while another person wrote, “There is nothing about that vehicle that says let’s go off-roading.”
Some commenters also noticed that the truck still appeared to have temporary paper plates, leading many to speculate the owner may have only recently purchased the vehicle before ending up stranded in the mud. One commenter joked, “Still has the paper plates 🤣 money well spent.”
Judging by how clean the Cybertruck still appeared in the photos, the off-road adventure likely did not last very long before the mud took over.
