An Alabama man’s attempt to escape a traffic stop ended with two people in custody after his mother arrived at the scene and allegedly interfered with officers trying to arrest him. What began as a routine traffic violation quickly turned into a three-mile pursuit, a marijuana discovery, and a family reunion that neither participant likely had in mind.
According to the Dothan Police Department, 27-year-old Jakorey Keshaun Corbitt was arrested on October 12, 2026, after refusing to stop for an officer along Honeysuckle Road. The pursuit reached speeds of approximately 55 mph before Corbitt eventually stopped in a parking lot along Fortner Street.
However, the situation took another unexpected turn when 49-year-old Daphney Arpreatrae McCray arrived in a separate vehicle while officers were attempting to get Corbitt out of his car. Police say McCray interfered with their efforts and resisted being detained, resulting in her arrest before officers could finish taking Corbitt into custody.
Investigators later determined that McCray was Corbitt’s mother, making the encounter considerably more complicated than an ordinary traffic stop. Both now face criminal charges stemming from their respective actions, although they were booked into separate detention facilities.

The Dothan Police Department said the incident began shortly after 9 p.m. when an officer observed a traffic violation near the Wells Fargo building on Honeysuckle Road. After the officer activated the patrol vehicle’s emergency lights, Corbitt allegedly refused to pull over and continued driving for approximately three miles before stopping in the 1300 block of Fortner Street.
During the pursuit, the officer observed a small bag being thrown from the vehicle as speeds reached approximately 55 mph. Another officer recovered the discarded bag and determined that it contained marijuana, adding another issue for investigators to address once the vehicle finally stopped.
As officers ordered Corbitt to exit the vehicle, McCray arrived in another car and allegedly began interfering with their efforts to safely remove him. Police say she actively resisted officers attempting to detain her, forcing them to restrain her before Corbitt eventually exited his vehicle and was taken into custody.
Police Find Glock Handgun
Following Corbitt’s arrest, officers searched his vehicle and discovered a Glock handgun inside, although the department did not announce any firearm-related charges. Investigators also established that McCray was Corbitt’s mother, confirming the relationship between the two people arrested during the encounter.
Corbitt was charged with felony attempting to elude a law enforcement officer, second-degree possession of marijuana, and tampering with physical evidence. McCray, meanwhile, was charged with obstructing governmental operations and resisting arrest for her alleged interference with officers during her son’s detention.
Police transported Corbitt to the Houston County Jail while McCray was booked into the Dothan City Jail, bringing the unusual encounter to an end. Authorities did not provide bond amounts or upcoming court dates, leaving both individuals facing separate criminal allegations following a traffic stop that ultimately resulted in two arrests.
