A Mercedes-Benz exhibition vehicle crashed into a wall at the 2026 Paris Motor Show, and the person responsible wasn’t even old enough to drive. A child somehow managed to engage reverse in the German automaker’s new electric VLE, turning a car display into an embarrassing incident.
The mishap occurred on Saturday, October 17, at the Paris Expo Porte de Versailles exhibition center. Two children were inside the bronze-colored luxury minivan when one apparently activated its electric drivetrain and selected reverse.
Footage posted on Instagram by Globalxpress24 shows the Mercedes suddenly moving backward toward the display wall. An employee tries to intervene, but the vehicle strikes the backdrop before anyone can stop it.
Fortunately, there have been no reports of injuries, although the incident left visible damage to the exhibition stand. The extent of any damage to the Mercedes itself is unknown.

The incident happened during the closing weekend of the Paris Motor Show. The VLE was positioned in front of a large promotional backdrop bearing the French slogan “Redéfinir l’espace,” meaning “redefine space.”
The video shows a Mercedes representative attempting to stop the moving vehicle, apparently without success. Following the collision, the two children exit the minivan as security personnel approach.
Exactly how the child managed to activate the vehicle and engage reverse hasn’t been established, and Mercedes-Benz has not provided a detailed explanation of the incident.
The VLE Is Mercedes’ New Electric Luxury Van

The vehicle involved was Mercedes-Benz’s new VLE, an electric luxury people carrier designed with families and passenger comfort in mind. Its spacious cabin can feature a full-width MBUX Superscreen dashboard and an enormous 31.3-inch entertainment display.
The entry-level VLE 300 uses a single electric motor producing 272 horsepower, while the VLE 400 4Matic offers a dual-motor setup with 409 horsepower. Mercedes also quotes a WLTP driving range of up to 435 miles for the VLE 300. The electric van is expected to reach American dealerships in 2027 as a 2028 model.
An Awkward Moment For Mercedes
Motor shows routinely encourage visitors to explore vehicle interiors; however, a display vehicle unexpectedly moving under its own power raises legitimate questions about how its controls were secured.
It’s not known whether the children or their guardians faced any consequences following the collision. There has also been no confirmed estimate for the damage.
The VLE was supposed to demonstrate Mercedes’ vision for luxurious family transportation, but this particular vehicle became the center of an unexpected viral moment.
