A Reddit post shows a 1984 Porsche 911 Carrera that’s been resurrected after sitting in a garage for nearly 30 years. The person who did the work shared it on the r/projectcar subreddit, and the pictures are stunning.
The owner explained the car had around 69,000 miles when they got it, and now it sits at roughly 73,000 miles. They said this was the first Porsche they had ever driven or owned, and they bought it at a price they couldn’t refuse.
After spending months rebuilding, repairing, and adjusting different components, they finally got to experience what the car was like to drive.
Although they said the car isn’t as polished or refined as some newer vehicles they’ve owned, they were still impressed by how capable the 42-year-old Porsche is. They also said that knowing the ins and outs of how it works mechanically makes driving it all the more satisfying.
A Rewarding Project

The owner explained in the post that one of the best parts of driving the car is knowing what’s happening inside it. Whether they are pressing the throttle, shifting gears, braking, or taking a corner, they know the components they spent months building are working properly.
They go on to say they know what is inside the engine because they personally handled the parts, checked measurements, and worked through the problems that came up during the project.
“Sometimes I think I enjoy that feeling as much as driving it,” the owner said.
Users Praise the Restoration
The Reddit post drew plenty of reactions from fellow car enthusiasts, with one commenter saying they were so stoked for the owner and felt the description in their bones. Wishing them good fortune and to them and their bloodline.
Another commenter said they had always dreamed of owning an air-cooled Porsche, but currently they drive a Ford Ranger. They also mentioned considering a Mazda Miata as a more affordable option while still dreaming of owning an older Porsche one day.
The commenter also added that the 10.5-month turnaround seemed relatively quick for a project like this.
What Makes the Car So Special
According to Motogallery, the 1984 Porsche 911 introduced the Carrera 3.2 and featured a 3.2-liter flat-six engine producing 207 horsepower, paired with a five-speed manual transmission and rear wheel drive.
Porsche produced roughly 17,000 units across all variants during its lifespan. Today standard models range from $50,000 to $150,000, while 911 Turbo models could exceed $250,000, according to Motogallery.
After sitting for nearly three decades, seeing this 1984 Porsche 911 Carrera restored to its former glory is a great sight to see, and now its owner gets to enjoy the results after nearly a year of work.
