Imagine having your pride and joy, a Dodge Charger muscle car, seized by the police after you’d done some illegal street racing. You’d probably feel annoyed at breaking the law, getting caught, and having the police take your car.

If that wasn’t enough, just picture the police seizing the car and then deciding to make an example of it by crushing it. That would be devastating for anyone who’d put money into that car. Well, the owner of this 2009 Dodge Charger witnessed exactly that.

Louisville Police seized this bright green Dodge Charger with a Hellcat engine under the hood during an illegal street takeover investigation. The police have various options available to them when they seize a car like this, and crushing the car is one of them.

In this instance, that is exactly what the police department decided to do. They wanted to show those considering illegal street racing just what could happen to their beloved cars if they are caught. It sent a strong message: if you get caught street racing, you might lose your car and never see it again.

This Dodge Charger Was a Known Troublemaker

Sadly for the owner, this Dodge Charger was a known troublemaker. Police seized the car in 2024 after an illegal street-racing takeover at Shawnee Park that year. Yet while it looked like a lightly modified muscle car on the outside, police investigations revealed something much more troublesome.

Police found quite a few stolen parts on this Charger. In fact, police found more than nine stolen components in the car. These included the 6.2-liter supercharged Hellcat engine, as well as the wheels, electronic modules, the exhaust system, suspension, brakes, transmission components, and even the seats.

All of these came from other cars and were stolen, making this a particularly troublesome muscle car and one the police were glad to seize.

Further investigation revealed that the stolen parts came from all over America. They had come from Detroit, Michigan, and Indianapolis, Indiana, before the car itself ended up in Louisville. With so much history of trouble and with so many of its core parts stolen, the police clearly had to do something with it, and not simply hand it back to the owner.

That is when they decided the best course of action was to crush it and make an example of this illegal street racer.

The Dodge Muscle Car Was Given a Public Crushing

The Louisville Police teamed up with Hot Wheels Monster Trucks Live to give the car a public sendoff. They took the car to the KFC Yum! Center, where it was added to the Glow-N-Fire Tour, which brings together a huge number of monster trucks. One truck in attendance was a real-life version of the Hot Wheels model Rhinomite.

This was the truck the police and Hot Wheels chose to crush the Dodge muscle car.

This was done to send a message to street racers. “Illegal street racing in Louisville has consequences,” said LMPD Chief Paul L. Humphrey. Drivers who put themselves and others in danger with street racing should be wary of losing their vehicles, Humphrey added.

“This is a choice, and it’s also a crime. Okay? If you don’t want this happening to you, don’t make that choice and make that decision,” said LMPD Detective Kyle Willis. When the monster truck had finished, very little was left of the muscle car.

A stark reminder to street racers that breaking the law has consequences.
