Yet Another Ford Recall, This Time Truck Speedometers Could Be Lying

Ford has announced yet another recall, this time involving something as basic as the speedometer. More than 102,000 F-Series trucks could display inaccurate speed or engine RPM readings because of defective analog instrument gauges.

According to documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the problem affects certain 2025 and 2026 models. The speedometer and tachometer needles can become stuck, move erratically, or display incorrect information.

It’s an unusual problem considering how much attention modern digital instrument clusters receive when things go wrong. In this case, however, it’s the traditional analog gauges that are causing trouble.

Although Ford hasn’t reported any crashes or injuries linked to the defect, inaccurate speed readings could increase the risk of an accident or a speeding ticket. The automaker is now preparing a hardware replacement campaign to address the issue.

The recall covers 102,159 vehicles, including 10,570 examples of the 2026 F-150 built between August 22, 2025, and May 12, 2026.

Another 91,588 trucks come from the 2025–2026 F-250, F-350, F-450, F-550, and F-600 ranges, manufactured between December 14, 2024, and April 17, 2026. Interestingly, the recall also includes a single 2026 F-750 built in November 2025.

Not every truck manufactured during those periods is affected. Ford identified the potentially defective vehicles using supplier production records.

The Problem Can’t Be Fixed With A Software Update

Ford traced the malfunction to manufacturing deficiencies involving an instrument cluster component supplied by Visteon. The affected gauges may freeze or move incorrectly, leaving drivers with unreliable information about their speed or engine RPM.

Unlike some recent vehicle recalls, this problem requires a physical repair rather than an over-the-air software update. Authorized dealers will replace the defective instrument cluster module free of charge.

Ford had identified 18 warranty reports and 93 field reports associated with the issue by September 16, 2026. No related crashes or injuries had been reported at the time of the recall.

Owners Will Receive Recall Notices Soon

Ford plans to mail initial notification letters between October 26 and October 30, 2026. Follow-up letters notifying owners that replacement parts are available are scheduled for December 7 through December 11.

Owners can check whether their trucks are affected using their vehicle identification number on the NHTSA recall website. Ford’s recall number is 26C46, while the NHTSA campaign number is 26V653.

For drivers who depend on their trucks every day, a speedometer that can’t be trusted is hardly a minor inconvenience. Even traditional gauges need to get the basics right.
