Getting your mailbox knocked over by a passing vehicle is frustrating enough the first time, but imagine having to replace it eight separate times. One Tennessee man apparently reached his breaking point and decided that his next mailbox would need something considerably stronger than a traditional wooden post.
TikTok creator Travis (@builtbytravis), who appears to be based in Cookeville, Tennessee, recently shared a video documenting his solution to a problem that seemingly refuses to go away. After watching his mailbox get struck repeatedly, he decided to reinforce its replacement with concrete and wood, hoping the additional strength would finally put an end to the destruction.
Of course, building a sturdier mailbox sounds perfectly reasonable until people start questioning what might happen if another vehicle crashes into it. While some viewers praised Travis for protecting his property, others raised concerns about whether such a rigid structure could seriously injure a driver or create legal problems.
Nevertheless, Travis seems determined to find out whether his latest creation can survive whatever comes its way, although he doesn’t appear entirely convinced that the problem is over. “After 8 hits, I decided the mailbox needed a little more than a replacement,” he explained, joking that he hoped he wouldn’t need to make another installment documenting its destruction.
Tennessee Man Reinforces Mailbox With Concrete After Eight Vehicle Strikes

@builtbytravis After 8 hits, I decided the mailbox needed a little more than a replacement. Concrete, wood, and a whole lot of optimism that I won’t be making a Part 3. Place your bets. In his TikTok video, Travis showcased his reinforced mailbox project, which combines concrete and wood in an attempt to prevent another passing vehicle from easily knocking it down. Considering that previous replacements apparently failed to survive the area’s traffic, it’s understandable why he might have lost faith in conventional mailbox posts.
“Concrete, wood, and a whole lot of optimism that I won’t be making a Part 3,” Travis wrote in the video’s description. He even invited viewers to predict how long the new mailbox would last, suggesting that eight previous collisions haven’t exactly inspired confidence in the driving habits of people passing his property.
Interestingly, one commenter claimed to drive past the mailbox regularly and confirmed that the repeated damage had become something of a neighborhood spectacle. “I drive by your mailbox every day. I felt so bad it seemed like every time you got it fixed it went down within 2 days,” the viewer wrote, adding that seeing Travis pour concrete was particularly amusing.
Viewers Defend Concrete Mailbox as Others Raise Safety Concerns
While some viewers questioned the potential danger of hitting such a rigid structure, others argued that drivers should be responsible for keeping their vehicles on the road in the first place. “Everyone saying someone can die hitting this. The driver could literally kill someone because they don’t know how to drive,” one commenter wrote, while another joked that people criticizing the project must have experience hitting mailboxes themselves.
Another viewer defended Travis by writing, “Sounds like a lot of people in these comments struggle to miss mailboxes.” At the same time, someone else suggested adding reflectors to improve visibility and discourage future excuses from drivers. However, the debate also raised questions about whether a reinforced mailbox could comply with roadside safety requirements, which vary depending on the location and the applicable rules.
Despite the concerns, plenty of commenters supported Travis’s decision, with one writing, “People need to drive better,” and another questioning why drivers were being excused for repeatedly leaving the roadway. Whether the new mailbox survives its next encounter remains to be seen, but after eight previous hits, Travis is clearly hoping that concrete will succeed where ordinary replacements couldn’t.
