Negative Facebook recommendations are adding a public backlash to a Texas wedding venue’s dispute with a woman whose fiancé died months before their ceremony. A screenshot captured October 14 shows Posey Meadows’ page displaying “20% recommend” across 644 reviews, with several recent reviewers explicitly criticizing its handling of the canceled wedding.
Diego Hernandez, 25, died suddenly in late April before his planned November 20 wedding at the venue outside San Marcos, KSAT Investigates reported on October 12. He and his fiancée had paid $15,909.28 toward the celebration.
His surviving fiancée sought that money back and sued Posey Meadows after the refund dispute remained unresolved. The venue denied the allegations and filed a counterclaim accusing her of breaching the contract by refusing to make the final payment.
She declined an interview with the station and requested privacy. Hernandez’s mother, Lucy Hernandez, spoke about seeking a refund while preparing to say goodbye to her son: “I honestly felt that it wasn’t going to go past a phone call.”

In emails obtained by the station, owner Julie Campbell offered to discuss moving the booking to another date or applying the payments toward a different type of event. A partial refund might also be possible if the original wedding date could be rebooked.
Lucy Hernandez described a phone conversation in early May, just before she went to see her son’s body for the last time. She said the exchange became tense and Campbell told her the money would not be returned.
The signed contract reviewed by the station provides that payments are forfeited upon cancellation, without a clause specifically addressing a client’s death. The fiancée’s attorney sent a demand letter in late June, then filed suit in Hays County district court in late July.
The venue’s attorney told KSAT that the firm does not comment on the merits of pending litigation.
Proof of Hernandez’s death also became contested. The venue’s counterclaim asserted that the family had failed to provide it; the fiancée’s attorney said he had offered to send the death certificate before filing suit but received no response. The station reported that the certificate had since been filed in court.
On the Page
Screenshots of Posey Meadows’ Facebook reviews show multiple users selecting “doesn’t recommend,” with visible timestamps ranging from minutes to an hour before capture. Several refer directly to the death, refund request or counterclaim rather than describing their own wedding at the venue.
Criticism also appeared beneath a Posey Meadows post featuring photographs of its chapel and reception space. One commenter wrote, “We had this venue on our list, but not anymore! Do the right thing, Posey Meadows!” The comment had 411 likes in the screenshot.
Facebook also displayed a notice above the comments: “Posey Meadows limited who can comment on this post.”
