Fiat has never been afraid to experiment with unconventional family cars, and its latest concept takes that tradition to an entirely new level. Unveiled ahead of the 2026 Paris Motor Show, the Multiplay combines three different vehicle types into one surprisingly compact package.
The Italian automaker describes it as a combination of an MPV, an SUV, and a pickup truck. Its party trick is a transforming rear section that allows the vehicle to switch between carrying a large family and hauling bulky cargo.
The idea draws inspiration from Fiat’s famously unusual Multipla, which became known for squeezing six passengers into a remarkably small footprint. Rather than recreating that car’s controversial styling, the new Multiplay concept explores how the same space-saving philosophy could work for modern families.
Despite its futuristic appearance, the concept focuses on everyday practicality, with several clever solutions for passengers, pets, and outdoor activities. Fiat hasn’t announced production plans, but some of its ideas could eventually appear in future models.
From Family Hauler To Pickup Truck

Measuring 4.45 meters long, the Multiplay features an innovative C-pillar system called Metamorfosi, which allows its rear bodywork to transform. A movable module slides forward along dedicated guides, converting the enclosed family vehicle into a four-seat pickup with an exposed cargo bed.
In its normal configuration, the concept accommodates six passengers plus an additional flexible seating element. Switching to pickup mode sacrifices some passenger space to create room for bicycles, sports equipment, and other large items.

Even the rear spoiler has a second purpose, rotating into an integrated bicycle rack capable of carrying two bikes. It’s an imaginative approach to making one vehicle handle several different jobs.
A Cabin Designed Around Families And Pets
Inside, Fiat has introduced a feature called the Petsenger seat, a modular element that can serve as a mounting point for a child car seat, a dedicated space for a pet, a small table, or a storage compartment. Part of its cushion can even be detached and used as a pet leash, while a folding water bowl is stored in the door.
The front passenger seat is equally unconventional, transforming into a lounge-style Sunseat when the vehicle is parked. With the seat facing backward and the dashboard serving as a backrest, passengers can relax beneath the panoramic roof.
Fiat has also given the interior a watermelon-inspired color scheme, pairing bright green exterior paint with red, pink, and turquoise cabin accents. A display that disappears into the dashboard when switched off helps maintain the uncluttered appearance.
Inspired By The Multipla, But Not Heading To Production Yet

The Multiplay follows the philosophy established by the 1956 Fiat 600 Multipla and the 1998 Multipla, both of which prioritized passenger space over conventional proportions. The latter famously accommodated six people across two rows despite measuring less than four meters long.
Fiat hasn’t provided detailed powertrain specifications or confirmed whether the concept is fully electric. The company also emphasizes that Multiplay is an experimental project rather than a preview of a specific production vehicle.
Still, its transforming bodywork and unusual interior solutions offer an interesting glimpse at how Fiat might approach practical family transportation in the future.
