The second-generation Dodge Viper GTS is already a desirable American performance car, but some versions are much rarer than others. Among the rarest is the 1998 GT2 Championship Edition, a special model built to celebrate Dodge’s success in international sports car racing.
Only 100 examples were produced, making it one of the most exclusive factory versions of the Viper. One of those cars has now appeared on Bring a Trailer, giving collectors an opportunity to acquire a particularly distinctive piece of Dodge history.
The example currently up for auction is number 37, with approximately 29,000 miles showing on its odometer. It wears the signature white-and-blue paint scheme associated with Dodge’s successful Viper GTS-R race cars.
Interestingly, this isn’t the car’s first appearance on the auction platform. Its original owner sold it through Bring a Trailer in May 2022, and roughly 1,000 miles have been added since that transaction.
Built To Celebrate Dodge’s Racing Success

The GT2 Championship Edition commemorated Chrysler’s victory in the 1997 FIA GT2 championship and its class win at the 1998 24 Hours of Le Mans. Dodge equipped the special edition with several visual upgrades inspired by the competition-specification GTS-R.
These included a front splitter, extended side skirts, and a prominent fixed rear wing. The Stone White exterior with blue racing stripes was complemented by GTS-R badging and staggered 18-inch BBS wheels.
A More Powerful 8.0-Liter V10

Under the long hood sits a naturally aspirated 8.0-liter V10, revised for the Championship Edition to produce 460 horsepower and 500 lb-ft of torque. That’s an increase over the standard Viper GTS, which was rated at 450 horsepower.
Power reaches the rear wheels through a six-speed manual transmission and limited-slip differential. This particular example also features an aftermarket Borla exhaust system, while Continental ExtremeContact Sport 02 tires were reportedly fitted ahead of the sale.
A Special Interior With Racing Details

The cabin features black leather bucket seats with blue inserts and embroidered GTS-R logos. Matching blue leather accents appear across the dashboard, center console, and door panels.
Red Oreca-branded five-point racing harnesses accompany the conventional seatbelts, while a serialized plaque identifies the car as number 37. Equipment includes air conditioning, electric windows, and an Alpine CD stereo.
Another Chance To Own A Rare Viper
The original window sticker lists a price of $85,200 and delivery to Winners Dodge in Michigan. The sale also includes assembly photographs, a GT2 Assembly Cam, and a Carfax report showing no reported accidents or damage.
At the time of the supplied listing, bidding had reached $70,500, with the auction still underway. The final result will offer an indication of what collectors are prepared to pay for one of Dodge’s rarest Viper variants.
