Most people will admit that they never want to see the flashing lights of a police cruiser behind them while they’re on the road. Usually, this is a sign that you’ve done something wrong, and there’s an expensive ticket coming your way.
However, there’s one police cruiser that people in South Lyon, Michigan, seem to be more than happy to see these days. That’s because this tiny cruiser isn’t actually an active cop car, but instead it’s a miniature version of the real thing that has been posted up at a roundabout, and people on the community’s local Facebook page can’t seem to get enough of it.
Despite the car’s small size, it appears to be making big impacts on local traffic, since so many people seem to slow down to get a look at it while they’re driving through the roundabout at Seven Mile and Pontiac Trail. But it’s not just looky-loos who are taken by the car.
It seems like a lot of people are getting duped by the car and slowing down on reflex to avoid getting a speeding ticket. Locals don’t seem to be mad about this either, since it’s curbing speeding and keeping people on their toes while they are driving around town.
The Car Has Become a Local Sensation
On the South Lyon Facebook, people can’t help but post about the car each time they see it. On Oct. 6, one resident made a post asking someone to share a photo of the car. “Can somebody post a picture of the fake cop car in the middle of the roundabout at Seven Mile and Pontiac Trail? It made my morning, but I was on my way so I couldn’t stop and grab a picture.”
People were more than happy to oblige and shared several of the snaps they captured of the cute car.
Traffic Has Been Affected by the Car
While the car’s intention may have been to make people smile, it seems to be doing some heavy lifting to ensure drivers obey local laws. That’s because many people have been duped by the car, including some who use apps like Waze, which alerts users to delays and police activity.
“On the Waze app it was reported as a police car this morning, I looked all around, and then I saw it and cracked up,” one person wrote.
Someone Moves the Car From Location to Location.
According to one poster, the car has been making its way through town thanks to some mystery helpers. “I think I’ve seen it in three different places,” one person wrote.
“We saw it at the Eight and Currie roundabout last week,” another person added. “Love it!”
“I love how it’s traveling from one roundabout to another,” a third person wrote.
