A woman in Indiana apparently decided the lawn outside the courthouse was the perfect place to practice her reverse donuts.

The Jennings County Sheriff’s Office arrested Lorraine Wilkerson of North Vernon after an incident at the Jennings County Courthouse on Oct. 5. Wilkerson was arrested on suspicion of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated, along with other charges.

Surveillance footage released by the sheriff’s office shows just how strange the incident was. Wilkerson’s vehicle can be seen driving across the courthouse lawn shortly before 5 p.m., with the car apparently remaining in reverse as it spins around in circles.

At one point, the vehicle runs over a sign, then continues onto the grass and does several more donuts.

Not the Best Spot

The video shows the vehicle repeatedly circling across the courthouse lawn as it passes trees, light posts, and other objects all in reverse.

The sheriff’s office used the incident to remind people not to drive after drinking, adding that anyone who has had too many drinks should make arrangements for a safe ride home.

“If you’ve had a few too many margaritas with dinner, please don’t get behind the wheel,” the sheriff’s office said in its post.

The Arrest

Wilkerson, a North Vernon resident, was booked into the Jennings County Jail following the incident.

Local reporting identified the driver as Wilkerson.

Jail records show she was booked on Oct. 5 and charged with operating a vehicle with an alcohol concentration of .08 or more and operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated. Both charges were listed as Class C misdemeanors, and her bond was listed at $905.

The sheriff’s office initially described Wilkerson as 68 years old, while jail records identified her as 67. They did not provide additional details about what led to the incident or whether anyone was injured.

Wilkerson is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
